Monaghan 0-19 Laois 1-11. FT.
53 games over 10 weeks to produce a Super 8 of 7 of the 8 teams who were in Division 1 of the National League this year and the top team and winners of Division 2. Now for the 12 games to whittle 8 down to 4.
Dublinās group is much easier to call than the other group.
It will be Dublin and one of Tyrone/Donegal youād suspect. Roscommon have far too many glaring deficiencies to compete here. Theyāre far too light in the middle of the pitch, their defence is wide open and their goalkeeper looks easily rattled.
The other group is much tighter, all 4 sides have big questions marks to answer, I fancy Kerry and Kildare to advance but who knows between them.
One could make a similar comment about every major soccer league in Europe.
Well we have the āchampions leagueā type structure thatās been agitated for, for years to replace what was once a great knock out competition. Maybe someone in Croke Park should have taken a closer look at the Champions League and how it has evolved. 11 months for a 60 odd UEFA membership to play down to the same few handful of elite super franchises from Spain, England and Bayern Munich and Juventus.
Could you apply that same philosophy in the world cup? 160 teams over 2 years etc etcā¦
Or champions league run over 9 or 10 months. Why dont we just hand that one to Real Madrid every year. Your point makes no sense.
There is also fun in playing, so there is.
Letās just ape everything from a professional business soccer into an amateur hobby like the GAA. Bloat the number of championship games that went from 32 to 60 in 2001 up to 68 (thatās without replays) all the time agonising over the lot of the down trodden club member and how to accommodate them in the calendar.
Oooft
This super 8s is a total waste of time. Iād rather watch kerry v Dublin play a best of three.
Kerry?
Kerry have proven nothing yet.
Big questions for them to answer given the pathetic state of Munster football this year.
Anybody have the breakdown of the super8s by province please
Dublin and seven Ulster counties.
kildare are going to win the all ireland
Just saw a tweet there about the super 8 make up, 7 of the 8 teams were this years Div 1, Mayo the only one not there and Roscommon the replacement, themselves being in Div 1 next year anyway. So the top teams continue to play on and have competitive games and will have Div 1 again next year for the majority.
The championship structure is not right. Needs to be tiered in some form.
trying to escape to the mouth watering ādouble headerā in port laiois was out of the question on/of a saturday afternoon so i took the young fella over to Pairc Tailteann
it was fantastic cc @Sidney to attend a game at a most provincal of venues, it was a balmy evening , a classic barn type stand is at one end of the ground whilst behind both goals are two grassy bank which are great for families on a dry evening and the other side is made up of some ramshackle terracing
the place was packed - save for the grassy banks which is where we ended up- kildare support outnumbered fermangh at least 5:1 - their fans were raucous and in full voice and whatever bandwagon is going on is in full swing, the crowd and the team have a bond
i had no progrmme so had really no clue of any of the players but kildare utterly destroyed fermanagh- they played the game at a pace id imagine fermanagh had never seen, fermanagh tried this crap of putting 14 men in their own half but kildare just kicked points from 45 yards or else had rampaging attacks at a speed this so called blanket defense just couldnt deal with
kildareās midfiled is top notch and their forward play excellent - yer man Flynn from Maynooth is lethal and they look like a team CC @caoimhaoin who are very well coached and peaking at the right time after maybe 3 years of prep
They won pulling up and took off their best men with 20 to go
They were really excellent and i was very very impresed- in Navan also you are very close to proceedings and the physicality of the game was striking.
Fermanagh did kick 0-18 points but really were never in contention and maybe u know that is where they need to tighten up- fermanagh were muck altogther and the fact the scored 0-18 points may highlight something CON needs to work on
Graham Brody gave a masterclass today in Navan, in truth Monaghan could have won by 15 points were it not for him. Heās revolutionised goalkeeping and would be a deserving All Star this year. Albeit we all know the All Stars are a joke. At one point today he pulled off a brilliant stop from McManus, only to get up and take the pass from the corner back who won the rebound and charged up the field to set up a shot at goal for his side. Heās simply incredible, and I say that not just for a goalkeeper. Hopefully he and the likes of Beggan who is ridiculously accurate from ground and hand, put and end to shite goalkeepers forever.
