2018 All Ireland Senior Football Championship

This is also true. But there’s no value in Dublin @ 4/6

I read earlier Tyrone faced four ulster sides last season and won by a combined of 46 points before being systematically destroyed by the dubs in the semi. Maybe a run through the qualifiers facing the likes of Clare, Kildare and Roscommon would prepare them better for Dublin this season.

Since the beginning of 2014 the only non ulster sides Tyrone have beaten in championship are limerick, tipp, Offaly, Louth and the mighty Sligo. The notion that’ll they beat even two of kerry, Dublin and Mayo in one season is ridiculous imo.

Tyrone won’t win it the year. Even if they did it won’t count until they hand back the medals they stole in previous years.

There’s at least as much evidence that Tyrone can win an All-Ireland in 2018 as there was that Dublin could win one in 2011, mate.

They’ve been in two of the last three All-Ireland semi-finals and in the interim year lost to Mayo by a point in an All-Ireland quarter-final which was a de facto semi-final. League form is just noise.

I’m not sure why you’re using Dublin’s 2010 under-21 title as evidence they could win a senior title in 2011, but seeing as you are, Tyrone won an under-21 title in 2015 which is more relevant to the 2018 senior campaign than the 2010 under-21 title was to the 2011 senior campaign, given that those 2015 players are now entering their peak senior years.

The reality is that Dublin are clear favourites with three teams, Mayo, Kerry and Tyrone, behind them who are all well capable of beating each other on a given day, and possibly capable of challenging Dublin on a given day.

Then there are a group of teams behind them again - Galway, Monaghan, Donegal, Roscommon, Tipperary, Cork, maybe Kildare, all whom are capable of beating each other, all of whom are capable of giving the tier 2 teams a serious match on a given day, but all highly unlikely to get within an asses’ roar of Dublin.

That’s some fucking joke in fairness

The facts are The only reason Tyrone have been regularly in semis is due to the cannon fodder they meet in ulster. They haven’t beaten Dublin, Mayo or Kerry in championship so you can’t mention them in the same breadth. The championship due to its structure is a terrible indicator of a teams progress. Tyrone are in that second pack whether you like it or not and are miles behind kerry, Dublin and Mayo. Nobody said Dublin for certs for 2011 but the previous season they brought the all Ireland champions to a one score game. How did Tyrone fair against last years all Ireland champions? Chalk and cheese.

Tyrone have been very lucky in their draws. just looking again since 2014 they’ve pretty much avoided all the second tier teams like galway, tipp, Kildare and Roscommon. They’ve been drawn against division four sides/cannon fodder in ulster and then got humiliated by one of the big guns.

Tyrone are not miles behind Mayo.

They played each other in the 2016 All-Ireland quarter-final, a match in which both teams had aimed to peak for, when Mayo won by one point, a match Tyrone should have won.

Tyrone won comfortably in this year’s league meeting.

You’ve admitted there that “the championship is a terrible indicator of a team’s progress”.

Therefore you submit to my argument that the way GAA competitions are structured by definition offers a paucity of evidence to judge teams on.

Checkmate.

Let’s take a direct line through Dublin. Mayo lost by a point. Tyrone suffered utter humiliation as they were systematically dismantled by Dublin. Mayo have beaten both Kerry and Dublin in championship in the past five years. Tyrone have not managed to beat any division one or two side outside of ulster in championship in the last five season. Maybe going by 2016 we can only assume Tyrone are in rapid decline while Mayo have continued to perform.

That’s not how cup football works.

Oh, and you said Mo Salah was a flat track bully.

Checkmate.

You can keep saying check mate but the facts Tyrone have been largely an irrelevance for the best part of a decade now. They’ve beaten the cannon fodder up north in awful games but come August they’ve been consistently found wanting when it really matters. There’s absolutely no evidence that they’ll challenge for the all Ireland this year and in fact going by recent years results they could be infact in rapid decline.

Didn’t you say Liverpool were shit and Salah was a flat track bully, mate?

I’m told by others I have a fertile imagination but I’m pretty sure I’m not dreaming up the fact that Liverpool are in this year’s European Cup final, with Salah in pole position for World Player of the Year.

There wasn’t much “evidence” last summer that that would happen.

Liverpool are a bit like Tyrone they’ve beaten nobody of note to reach the final. I’m not sure what the relevance of this is to all Ireland football thread.

The relevance of it is that it demonstrates you know fuck all about how sport works.

So your saying if Tyrone avoid all the decent teams like Liverpool have they may scrape to a final. I’d agree but given the super 8s format that’s unlikely to happen this year. If Tyrone have to face any of kerry, Dublin and Mayo in the semi they’ll be brushed aside.

Liverpool utterly destroyed the team being called “the best in Europe”, pal.

You must have missed that one, sorry, two.

Again it’s similar to Tyrone having a decent record against ulster sides who have largely been an irrelevance in the business end of the championship for the last four seasons. Liverpool have a good record against English sides in the champions league but English teams larlegly been an irrelevance in the championship league for the past five seasons. Another very good analogy sid.

Tyrone haven’t been in an All Ireland final since 2008 mate. Tipperary would be a better benchmark of where Tyrone are at, not Kerry or Mayo.

Why would you be taking a direct line through Dublin when discussing Mayo and Tyrone ?

If direct lines are your thing, you must be going to have another one of your biggest bets of your life on Mayo to beat Galway this weekend. You know that direct line through Roscommon there.

Direct lines. Give me fucking strength.
