2018 All Ireland Senior Football Championship

Dublin hit top form first time this year in the second half. Not a team left in the Championship that will live with them in that mood or playing to that level.

The trick to taking on Dublin is to get under their skin, ruffle them up. Mayo were consistently able to do that. We failed to do this today.

Ooooft

Mayo beat Dublin in 2012. @Cicero_Dandi deems that outside his terms of reference though as its pre Jim Gavin Dublin. Odd that he then goes onto reference Donegal winning an All Ireland in 2012 in that pre Jim Gavin era.

What good is a replay if you donā€™t win it?

Mayo have had more shots than anyone else at Dublin. They consistently come up short.

Are you saying that mayo played Dublin more times than anyone else but couldnā€™t beat them? Is that what youā€™re saying here coz it isnā€™t really clear.

More gate receipts so more money for the gas to pump into Dublin GAA?

And Iā€™d say Supermacā€™s do alright out of them too.

I might have to revise that opinion a little. Dublin were outstanding in the second half. As good a performance as they have produced in a couple of years. Itā€™s hard to see them being stopped.

However, even as a Dublin man itā€™s not enjoyable to watch. The slow build up, going from one side of the pitch to the other and waiting for a gap to appear is mind numbingly boring. Itā€™s a very effective tactic in breaking down a blanket defence but as a spectacle its pure scutter.

Galway would have been way better off drawing Dublin into a shoot out. They have some serious attackers if they just let them attack. Going blanket against Dublin is futile at this stage. Death by a thousand cuts.

The best thing about yesterday was Jack McCaffrey. He plays with the pure joy and enthusiasm of a 10 year old. We need more of this and less fucking blankets.

Itā€™s no wonder Jim despises Jack

I think Jim is a smug cunt but this style they are playing is purely to counter blanket defences and not really his fault.

It pains me to say it but this championship is missing the filth of Mayo. No Mayo no decent games.

He has a blanket defence!? Heā€™s dropping Ciaran Kilkenny, arguably the best half-forward in the country, into the half-back line. How is he doing that to counter blanket defenses?

There is something about the way Mayo play Dublin that just makes the championship. Their ā€œI dont give a flying fuckā€ attitude has been the only thing to trouble the Dubs in the last few years.

Iā€™m saying Mayo have had more opportunities to put Dublin out of the Championship or take their crown than most other teams in Jim Gavinā€™s reign.

Theyā€™ve failed in all of those opportunities. Itā€™s not hard to grasp so I think you need some introspection if youā€™re struggling with it.

Without Mayo thereā€™d be little of note that youā€™d recall about the last 4 All Ireland seriesā€™.

Theyā€™ll stand the test of time more than another team of this era.

Odd that people keep talking about mayo as some sort of benchmark considering their run of important losses to de duds

Itā€™s bizarre. Losing a string of big games against Dublin is a sign of failure.
