I think itās clear now that Tyrone are the best team in Ulster.
Iād imagine it will be Dublin -7 or -8 ā¦ anything lower than that and youād have to charge in with serious money
I think thatās shite talk really considering they were ahead very close to the end and then got it back to 1 from 3 down in injury time
I thought the ref was poor. Maybe he favoured Monaghan on the whole but Iād need to see them again, there were a number of soft frees on both sides but frees are of much more benefit to Monaghan. I did feel he allowed Monaghan players way too much time and steps to offload the ball under pressure and in certain cases he awarded very soft frees when the player had overcarried.
The Hughes one at the end looked to be a free out if anything and heād already got a very soft one a few minutes beforehand.
Tyrone got much tighter on McManus in the second half and Monaghan struggled for chances from play with that.
The handicap is 6.

FOTY: Jack McCaffrey
I thought OāConnell had a poor game today and it does his chances harm as McCann had a brilliant game today and McCaffrey could well be FOTY with another big performance, itās the most competitive line on the pitch. Itās a toss up between Mattie Donnelly and Sludden for that half forward spot for me. Sometimes Donnellyās peformances get overlooked when heās not on the scoresheet but he had a big game today.
Just having a bite to eat now before heading for Galway. Not much giving Tyrone a chance but hopefully the low key build up and lessons learned from last year will see us give it a good go.
Commiserations to @Tank and @Chucks_Nwoko, neither side really played to their ability today but I think Tyrone deserved it. Tyrone will have a lot of work to do as they made some criminal errors in their shot selection and rushing things particularly in the first half but Monaghan really failed to play close to what they can, the occasion got to a lot of the players and they donāt have enough guys to get scores, if McManus isnāt getting them or the frees arenāt at their usual success rate then they struggle. The likes of Carey and Malone showed up their limitations.
Absolutely.
To be fair a lot of Monaghan players were hiding near the end, only really McCarthy and McManus were trying to make something happen.
McClure is a lucky man too with his shot that handed the ball back to Monaghan.
Enda mcginley said he clearly favoured tyrone in the key decisions
I didnāt think so, I thought he made some odd calls for both teams but he seemed to award Monaghan a host of frees when they were bottled up and overcarried. The free that put Monaghan ahead was ridiculous but we got a soft one ourselves not long after with Cavanagh.
There was a very soft free awarded to Harte in the first half that McAliskey pointed from over near the sideline on the 45 but if the ref hadnāt blown, Harte had open road in front of him and nobody close. Heās not a good ref and I donāt think he favoured either side recently but I think Tyrone came out the wrong side of more calls than Monaghan did.
I didnāt watch it. The commentators etc on radio ulster were commenting on the referee throughout the game, they certainly were of the opinion that he favoured tyrone. Whatever
I think people find it hard to hold perspective when Tyrone play.
Agreed
I thought Anthony Nolan refereed the tackle quite inconsistently and hurt Monaghan on balance. I reckoned there were two one point swings - one in each half - where he ignored drag downs on Monaghan players in attacking positions and then gave dubious frees at the other end from breakaways.
There was also one free awarded against McManus after a Tyrone kick out went awry in the second half when he got to the break first, shouldered a guy and toe poked it through for a clear Monaghan run in on goal. Nolan seemed to think it was a shoulder in the back but it looked a terrible call to me. Tyrone worked a point from the free.
A very preventable goal too. It actually came from a long delay - a set piece, lineball after Wylie careered into the back of Harte from the kick out after Monaghan went 12-11 up and fisted the ball over the line. Monaghan really should have been set defensively after Harte got treatment but they allowed themselves to be carved open too easily. I thought Ryan McAnespie, who was as poor today as he was good in Galway, should have reacted much quicker and thrown himself at the loose ball. Peter Harte really finished the game strongly.
Colm Cavanagh bought that converted free near the end by going stiff and flopping forward, but he was absolutely outstanding all through. A fantastic dispossession tackle on Jack McCarron late on too.
I feel quite sorry for all my Monaghan bessies. A game of fine margins.
Mcginley?
Rory Beggan cleaned McAliskey out of it in the first half under a high ball that McAliskey was going for and Beggan made no attempt, this came directly after a very harshly awarded free at the other end.
Monaghan also got a free brought forward against Harry Loughran which looked very soft that they converted and thereās also the Hughes on. The free you refer to McManus on came directly after a very soft free Monaghan received too.
Ryan Wylie should also have seen black in the first 5 mintues.
I think everyone who watched the game would agree that Monaghan were very hard done by.
Thatās incorrect, people fail to hold perspective in these games. Wrong calls went both ways, maybe the commentators were extremely biased on the Free State broadcaster and this swayed you.
