Problem is they still continue to go the short term route and pick the biggest and strongest fellas at underage rather than the most skilful. Won last yearâs Leinster u17 beating Dublin and beat Dublin again this year but theyâd lads well over 6ft and solid against skinny dublin kids so had natural advantage. Colm OâRourke has a pain in his face telling the county board to adopt the Dublin development squads model but itâs falling on deaf ears.
They are living in the 80âs
I know a player well, itâs mad stuff
And the money the management are on is a disgrace
I was in Carlow today in Borris and Carlow Town. Whole county was buzzing. Fuck all those fuckers that want to introduce a tiered championship and have the likes of Carlow, Longford and up until recently Tipperary out of it.
You can have both you know.
If on any given year someone goes well they should be able to make Super 8
Croke Park are only gunning to do with the Football Championship what they did with the âAll Irelandâ Hurling Championship when they fucked the likes of Laois, Carlow, Westmeath, Kerry and Antrim out of it.
They are
They already have.
In the hurling they should be promoting a team into the main championship each year. How are teams to improve playing teams at the same level.
The hurling is brilliant now.
I know that in some perceived football counties dual players are picking hurling because itâs well run and they are competitive
They are doing that unless Kerry win, which is ridiculous as an aside
There were 14 counties competing in the hurling provincial championships last year and then they went and fucked out Laois, Westmeath, Kerry, Meath and Carlow (who had won promotion back to the Leinster Championship by winning the Christy Ring Cup) for this bullshit 5 week league blitz. What can you do with the fuckers only keep plugging away at it. C*nts that are dreaming up these bullshit elitist structures in Croke Park havenât a clue and donât give a fuck.
When I was hurling for Carlow in the early 1990âs, I hurled against Galway and Kilkenny in the Championship. Those are the days a player wants particularly in a smaller county. We got a bit of a clipping both days but we didnât disgrace ourselves. Itâll be a long time before the powers that be in Croke Park let Carlow hurl against Kilkenny or Galway in the Leinster Championship again even though Carlow are a lot stronger now and better organised than they were in my playing days.
They did the same with the clubs in Carlow. In 2003 and 2005, Myshall ran All Ireland Club Champions from Birr and the Village to 3 points giving both the fright of their lives. Mount Leinster Rangers pushed Ballyhale Shamrocks all the way in 2007 when they were All Ireland Champions with Shefflin, Mick Fennelly, Cha Fitzpatrick, TJ Reid to 5 points. There was only a point in it with a few minutes left. A year after that Leinster Council voted to turf Carlow club champions out of Leinster Senior Club for Intermediate. Wexford had indicated they would back Carlow to stay in senior but the treacherous fuckers did a u-turn and voted the other way. Mount Leinster Rangers went and won an Intermediate All Ireland in 2012 to get back into senior ranks. Back in senior first year, they went close to beating a Kilcormac/Killoughey side that got to an All Ireland Final and then the second year got their revenge on Wexford for their treachery by beating Oulart in the Leinster Senior Final.
What revelation is that?
I for one wasnât aware you had played senior inter county hurling while the best @Cicero_Dandi can manage is some off season u14 medal
@backinatracksuit has an awful horn for @Cicero_Dandi so he tags him when itâs completely irrelevant.
That you play Spud hockey , didnât realize you were a hillbilly
I didnât know you were one either. I was very surprised when I first heard about your Sigerson Cup exploits.
The top two in the Joe McDonagh get into a game against the third placed teams in Munster and Leinster in a preliminary quarter final as well as getting something actually tangible of the cup itself and promotion for whoever wins. I think its a decent system tbh
Sigerson isnât Spud hockey
I think in theory it would be great to have a sixth team in both Munster and Leinster. I would put the McDonagh cup winners into Munster and give them 5 home championship games.
In the short term it would be of little benefit and some hammerings but it would at least make hurling more glamorous in those counties and give them proper big games and names in their home grounds rather than lip service.
The McDonagh cup in isolation appears to be a very good and even competition. Shame that the gap between the 4th best teams in Leinster and Munster are the top team in the second tier is fairly massive and very hard to close.
