I would assume it is to give him a vote of confidence /arm around the shoulder approach and see can he finally play a decent round. Sending him out in the last few pairings you may as well concede now.

They’re going to need McIlroy to win wherever they put him. So I suppose PH is hoping he’ll jolt the little Brit bollox into life by putting him top of the bill?
