It started back in the Mickey Whelan era and continued through to Tommy Carr and Tommy Lyons. 1999 and 2000 were particularly recriminatory. 2003 and 2004 as well. Caffrey made Dublin competitive again after a decade of almost complete slumber. The slumber began as soon as the final whistle of the '95 All-Ireland was blown.

Yeah, it was a wet day, Meath won 0-10 to 0-8, they got the last four points of the match after Eamonn Heery had put Dublin 0-8 to 0-6 up with about 10 minutes left. Dublin got a disallowed goal at the end which would have won it. Tyrone would have beaten Dublin in the semi-final.
Dublin teams arenāt supposed to be liked by the rest of the country, theyāre supposed to be hated. Dublin developed a box office nature during the Caffrey era which was a follow on from 2002 under Lyons. The Tiger was roaring and the cocaine was flowing on the Hill. There was never a dull moment anyway.

The Dubs were a great team full of mainly likable fellas. Always found the Dubs fans sound skins as well. Any I knew enjoyed the run for what it was but were gracious on Saturday night and knew that Mayo deserved to get one over on them. Donāt get me wrong, I hope ye donāt win one for 20 years again but the fucking whinging and moaning abiut splitting Dublin has been nothing short of embarrassing for the last few years
