But Tyrone are allowed do that and shouldnât be called out on it.
what was the day Pascall McConnell nearly gouged out one of Goochâs eyes and then he was accused of diving?
Down have never gone in for that stuff. Neither did Armagh until about 2003.
Gavin got roasted over the fish hooking
Small over maclaughlin only a few weeks ago
Paul Galvin and the mental wing back with the eyebrows whoâs name escapes me used get awful shit in the media
Oh aye
Think itâs unfair to be associating this Tyrone team with the thugs and cheats they had back then. Dooher has them playing football honestly which is how he played the game himself, getting the most out of what he had.
The other major similarity is the amount of scores they kick when kicking across the ball with the outside of the boot, another thing that was a Dooher trademark. Its supposed to be a riskier way of kicking but Dooher, and particularly the lads coming up from defence on the current team, have got great consistency with it.
Thats a very fair statement, albeit with a little dig thrown in. What strikes me about this team is an apparent lack of shitehawkery. Its to be admired.
Post reported, needs a trigger warning for rape.
Itâs what Ulster football was famous for, full-blooded and hard but never with cheats or thugs until Harte and McGuinness. Heard Rory Gallagher speak recently about the genuine hatred Donegal had for Tyrone, poisonous stuff to have in the game.
Its the Ulster football I grew up admiring in the early 90âs. Good to see it back. Cavan seemed decent out too. Hopefully others follow suit.
Tyrone-Derry in the 90s was pretty poisonous.
Youâre a good poster but you latch onto very strange things.
There was/is serious bitterness between Monaghan and Tyrone but Iâve still seen them stretch out each otherâs cramps plenty of times. I remember before Bantyâs first Ulster final, which he lost against Tyrone, before the throw in Mulligan turned around and cracked Dessie Mone across the jaw out of the blue, and floored him, but the players were still stretching out their cramps in that game.
Jim McGuinnessâs Donegal werenât dirty. Monaghan played them plenty of times in very hard-hitting games and there was no bitterness.
Micky Harte was/is a hateful, dirty, hypocritcal, sanctimonious wanker who was holding Tyrone back, agreed.
Iâve always associated this style of kicking with Ulster teams in general. Peter Canavan, Eamonn Burns of Down, Eamon Burns of Derry, Benny Coulter and Ger Houlahan were all skilled exponents of it.
Sean Cavanaghâs comment about Padraig OâHoraâs offence being as bad as him dragging down Conor McManus was pretty pathetic.
They werenât dirty but I have been told about some of the stuff Gallagher and that small fella Curran said to opposition players when they would run on the field during play, it was the lowest of the low. Sledging was what they focused on rather than dirt.
By who?
What pundit has criticised AOS? What have they said? Brolly is the only I can think of?
Would you not watch it on BBC instead of making yourself angry? Youâll give yourself ulcers with all this carry on
You clearly arenât familiar with Kieran Duff.
Thatâs an interesting discussion point.
from a Gaelic Football perspective, the players I remember getting the most grief from pundits etc, for cynical behaviour would be the likes of Paul Galvin, Matty Forde, Diarmuid Connolly, Tiernan McCann.
For teams it would have to be Tyrone 2011-2020, Dublin 1980s, Donegal 2010-11, Meath 1987-1996.
Teams and players that were more or less given a free pass were Dublin 2011-2020 (Des Cahill and Whelan swifty killed any criticism on TSG), Kerry 2009-2015, Mayo 2015-2020.
Thatâs only off the top pf my head. By no means a definitive list.
