not quite, character beats psychology.
no amount of psychological preparation could mitigate for the flaws of Aidan OâSheas character in a team environment
I think Mayo of the last decade were very similar to Armagh 1999-2006 in that they both had/have a sort of fatalism complex and thatâs down to history. Armaghâs fatalism complex showed up again and again, even after they stumbled over the line in 2002. They lost numerous games they should won and when they did win in 2002, they had to have it handed to them.
This is a good and fair piece I think.

Woolie spent half an hour bleating about the abuse Aidan OâShea gets on the podcast yesterday and how unfair it was. He then blamed management for how they utilised him.
About 15 minutes later, he was saying he couldnât understand how Michael Plunkett was playing for Mayo and that he was nowhere near intercounty standard.
Amazing how AOS is not allowed take personal criticism on his performances but itâs ok to eviscerate someone like Plunkett. In the semi final and final OâShea looked nowhere near intercounty standard.
By and large it is very hard win AIs in football ( and hurling) without a few real scoring forwards. For much of the last decade they lacked fire power
They have scored big in a lot of those finals. They also score heavily from tap over frees from their powerful running game. The issue has been moreso the number of goals they leak.
The last team to leak more than a goal in an All Ireland final and win it was Kerry in 2006 against Mayo and that was probably because it was a paddling in Kerryâs favour with a few consolation goals late on.
Mayo have conceded 2 goals in all 4 of their AI finals under Horan.
Iâd say mickey harte would get the mayo job if he wanted it. Heâs in knock every other day anyway so it would be a good fit for him
Tyrone have just done it. McCurry is the closest they have to a proper scoring forward and while heâs a handy player I wouldnât have him down as proper elite. McShane and McKenna carry threat if you take your eye off them but each of them did one thing in the match and had stinkers otherwise. Itâs definitely the poorest forward line to win an All-Ireland since Cork 2010 and probably since Derry in 1993.
Mayoâs one real dependable scoring forward was injured.
Useless stat that dawned on me last night.
The 4 goals that Mayo conceded in the last 2 All Ireland finals were finished with the hand.
The two they conceded in 2013 were palmed too IIRC.
Obviously in 2016 then it was the two own goals in the drawn game and a penalty after the Hennelly moment of madness in the replay.
2013 was the same
The game has changed.
You need score from everywhere now.
A forward unit will usually consist of 4 natural forwards (if eve) these days and a group of workers behind them.
Thatâs the reason why the likes of Donegal and Kerry have struggled to make the most out of the quality they have as their teams are not adequately balanced, the same for Armagh maybe.
Guys like McGeary and Meyler have been worth their weight in gold this year for Tyrone.
Of the 10 goals Mayo conceded in All-Ireland finals since 2013, only one was scored with an opposition playerâs boot from play.
ridiculous sport
I was at that one - Stephen Kelly came in for particular and constant attention, including a sly off-the-ball box in the gut from Galvin. Yous still should have scored with that late attempt that
D Ă SĂŠ caught in the square.
youâre a gas fucker.
No. No I donât. Look youâre all over the shop. One minute youâre telling us Conroy and RoD played well the next youâre telling us Mayo did everything right except for their shooting. You tell us Mayo did everything right and were in comfortable control of the game for about 75/80% of it and Tyrone stroll to victory? And Mayo give away 2 shitty goals with massive similarities to previous final fuck ups but it has nothing to do with tactics? They left a one on one with a man mountain impact sub who came on and scored a goal in the semi. But it had nothing to do with tactics?
Youâre some gymnast to be fair. Iâm worse for replying really.
I thought Ryan OâDonoghue played well.
Copy and paste please someone
Itâs on the Joe brolly thread.
