Johnyn Heaney’s fisted wide early in the second half was the worst. Paul Conroy hit the sort of wide with about 8 minutes left in normal time which is a match ender.
Matthew Tierney had an absolute nightmare. He’s the sort of player Galway were looking to to give them something extra over previous years.
Tierney is young so you can forgive him but he missed 2 frees from straight in front in perfect conditions. He often slots them from near midfield in swamps of pitches. Must be the Croke Park factor. Kicking from the surface there takes some getting used to.
That Lane decision to disallow the O’Donoghue goal was as bad a decision as you would see. At that stage you were entering the final stages of the game with 3 points the difference.
That and the fact Galway are very flaky and have done very little outside of Connaught in the past decade. There’s great potential there but they need a seriously good manager to showcase it.
Mayo have a huge track record of being down and out at half time before staging come backs. I remember Clare beating them at half time and roscommon too.
