In fairness the misses tally there include saves / blocks for 65s as well. At least two of Duggans āmissesā were Murphy saves Iād say. Prevented a point for Diarmuid Ryan too I think.
It was one of those games where you could have had several MOTMs, Murphy one of those with a valid claim.
I think Kilkenny only had five wides. Serious efficiency.
Incredible efficiency from Eoin Cody to score 1-6 off 11 possessions. Just emphasises how little of the ball most forwards actually see in a game. It just felt like the scores came that bit easier for Kilkenny.
Youād have to feel for the likes of SOD, Conlon, Kelly and McInerney. In some respects it would have been more fulfilling if the All-Ireland had come at the end of their career after years of striving. Real feeling of unfulfilled potential, almost 10 years on from that iconic success with a team of youngsters (or team of Bachelors like they christened the 95ā team).

That was a compelling game.
Kilkenny are Kilkenny. Just an incredible culture inbuilt over decades. Harder to shake off than the flu. They keep going and going and going. Derek Lyng has done an incredible job and theyāll be so difficult to beat in a fortnight. Should be a cracker. TJ will never retire, he still has it. Talk about a hurling brain - wow. Cody, Mullen, Blanchfield - class all over.
Ticket situation shouldnāt be as bad now either thankfully. If Kilkenny are to be the ones to knock us off our perch weāll be the first to congratulate them.
How on earth did Clare blow that? Mental brittleness came out via the diabolical decision to go with Morey as a sweeper. When they ditched it they turned around a five point deficit to lead by two. Had all the momentum and then Rory Hayes handed them a goal. Even then after OāDonnellās goal it was back to level. But just zero composure when it came to the crunch. Easier to moan and blame the ref rather than focus on internal failings.
OāDonnell and Duggan were colossal. Their best ever games for Clare. Both won a world of ball. Just a crazy, crazy decision to ditch what normally works for them to change to an alien system.
This is squarely on Lohan. Time and again in recent years he has made catastrophic decisions that have proved fatal in big games.
Starting Paidi Fitz last year, starting Cian Nolan in the Munster final, starting Fooly v Tipp in Ennis this year, going with the sweeper today. Obviously there is loyalty to him from supporters oweing to his playing days but if Davy presided over all this thereād be blue murder. And again blaming the ref today as he does after every game - do me a favour.
And then thereās Tony Kelly. Look, heās a really good player. Against 99% of players at club and intercounty heās unmarkable. But yet again in a big knock out game he was nowhere. Itās heresy to ever criticise him but his record in big knock out games over the last decade speaks for itself. Fellas on here lauding him as the GOAT or best player of his era does him no favours. Heās a good player, just not at the level of a TJ or Sean Finn.
Anyway, on to the final. Two terrific sides and we should get the final to match.
