2023 Club Championships

Need a boutique 4,000 capacity venue on the Cork/Kerry border.

Nasty nasty stuff of a Sunday .

Imagine fixing a game to suit all 200
Cork football supporters

Mallow was the obvious place for that game

Mallow be ideal. Some contrast in atmosphere between Limerick and Armagh.

Mate no one from cork woulda gone no matter where it was held

A fair cuntish headline, I’d be fuming if I were Evans

“They are a solid bunch to deal with but they are difficult to coach. They revert to old habits very easily, what do they call it these days, default to old habits. Under pressure when you default to old habits, you get caught. But they have gotten very good in the last four games of what they are doing and you can see that in their play.

“You have to wait for good things, like wine!”

Hell of a game that in the BOX-IT ATHLETIC GROUNDS yesterday. A really tremendous occasion in a red-raw coliseum. Like the postman, Ulster GAA just always delivers.

Scotstown threw everything they could at it and landed a few blows in the first half aided by a big breeze but like any great team Glen Maghera soaked it all up and came out swinging themselves in the second half. It wasn’t really until the last 10 minutes when the knockout blows came but it always felt like Glen would win once they got level and then ahead so early in the second half.

Scotstown may well have half (approximately seven) of the Monaghan team that pushed Dublin hard for 60 minutes this year and they got big performances from Beggan, McCarthy and Hughes x2, they also have a few weak links that get shown up on days like yesterday. McCarron also had a bit of a nightmare finishing up which was no help.

In contrast Glen probably have 10-12 players of Inter County standard, and included in that you have three generational players in Ethan Doherty, Hercules himself and Ciaran McFaul. Those three ran the show when it mattered. The supporting cast also turned up, Eunan Mulholland in particular was unreal. He will surely be in Mickey Hartes plans next year.

An interesting subplot was that Jody McDermott (whose father won a few Ulster Clubs with Scotstown back in the 1980’s) scored Glen’s last point which put the final nail in the coffin. So while they got McCarron playing on the father rule, it was another parental link who did for them. You win some, you lose some.

@Glenshane was enjoying this lovely post until you mentioned Mickey

How many do they have on the Derry team or overall panel.

Derry will win an AI in spite of mickey, it’s just one more obstacle and we relish the challenge

In 2023, McFaul, Ethan Doherty and Glass all started. McGuckian was a sub.

Emmett Bradley was on/off the team in 2022 but opted out for 2023. The goalie was subkeeper in 2022 but opted off for 2023.

Dougan/Jack Doherty/Danny Tallon/Alex Doherty have all been there or thereabouts. Eunan Mulholland is relatively young but will surely be called in if he wants to be. Same for McDermott.

The Inter County Minor Footballer of the Year this year is also from Glen so should be an addition in the next few years.

Tallon doesnt look like he’s gonna make it at all, which is a suprise given how he look coming up.

Harte met up with them at the end of October and a few Glen players told him they wouldn’t be going in to the intercounty setup. If they deliver the club AI though there could be a change of approach I expect.

Any odds for Glen vs Kilmacud

Doubt there will be odds until the venue is decided by the GAA, and Kilmacud Crokes* decide how many players they wish to start with.

Venue is key. Probably be in the shithole that is Mulligar though.

Newry or nowhere.
