2023 Club Championships

The boys were only gone for 7 days. Their timing was shite, but the lads are hardly whining that they stayed home all summer for Championship. They’re silly cunts if so.

It all depends on:
A: How good that said player is.
B: their previous commitment to the club.
C: are there any viable replacements.

If the player is a top 5 player and has been previously committed to the club then there’s no reason not to start him unless you’re a super club like Ballygunnar with massive numbers.

99% of clubs will start the player, prime example is Ballyhale who will be starting their players come the knockout stages.

It gets more complicated when a player is good enough to start but not exactly a top 10 player. Also if that player hasn’t previously shown that pride in the team he won’t get as many sympathisers.

Isn’t this the whole point of the master fixtures list? The lads who went on holidays should have known the dates early in the year and 1. Planned their holidays accordingly to a time when there is a lull in fixtures or 2. Not change but communicate that to management early, with management telling them that they can think twice if they consider themselves worthy of a starting place upon their return.

Yes, and it was shite timing. Thats Tipp cunts for you though.

However, lamenting that other lads stayed home all summer is ridiculous carryon. Go for your holidays lads, tis only hurling.

It was Football and some lads for whatever reason just mightn’t have been on holidays yet.

@StoneCold from what i have seen on the ground, an awful lot of players are still taking holidays from mid July to mid August regardless of Master Fixtures list. Its hard to change habits. Builders holidays in this timeframe doesn’t give some lads much choice on the matter.

I’d love to see what percentage of lads playing senior club are in a trade or farming nowadays. Most are students or teachers or in a cushy office number

It’s less than 20% in rural areas and prob less than 10% in total.

The reality is some lads say they care but at the same time book a holiday in the middle of the championship. This has always been the case and will continue to happen.

Ah its worse now, but young lads now are cuter than us aul eejits and realise its not the be all and end all.

Ian Kenny is on the senior panel pal.

The smart lads could go from Monday morning to Friday afternoon. 4 nights and only miss a couple of trainings.

Has Barry Coughlan lost his starting place & is Noel Connor’s retired altogether?

Noel Connors is retired. Not sure about Coughlan but they’d hardly be starting Harry Ruddle at full back ahead of him.

Saw that. Are they trying to make a Barry Nash out of him.

He hasn’t seen a minutes game time yet though and is with the Intermediates.

It looks like they are trying to add pace to their defence but obviously Philip Mahony and Shane O’Sullivan’s positions are safe.

Sheehan despite wearing 2 still seems to be operating around the middle.

They are in danger of overthinking it I think.

The hooping and hollering of the old Ballyhale crew celebrating the semi final win in the premium has obviously rattled them.

It really has.

It’ll feel like some anti climax when they end up beating Kilmacud Crokes* by 10 points in this year’s AI Final.

Ballygunner would want to be moving on from Shane O’Sullivan if they have serious designs in winning another Club All Ireland.

Therein lies a cross for their back.

Shane O’Sullivan was so far off it against Ballyhale in the semi final last year. That was well signposted against both Ballyea and Na Piarsaigh in Munster. He’s 37 or 38 now.

I think Ballygunner are far from cert for All Ireland Club that people think here.
