Horrific viewing for the corner back there. Miles off his man for the initial ball in and then miles off him again for the return pass for the finish, trotting away in after him.
Garrycastle relegated from senior in Westmeath
They bringing out his brother to manage?
Hoping heāll bring him home. Whoever goes up this year may not yo-yo back down if this Borris Kilcotton decline looks as terminal as I suspect it might be.
If a player was home tomorrow from playing in America would you start him club championship at the weekend?
Depends. Would you win without him
Just a general question really. Kanturk have 1 if not 2 of their big guns back to play next weekend. They will definitely start id imagine.
Ideally you shouldnāt but most clubs cant afford not to start them.
Good to see the club chairperson getting the recognition he deserves in the match day set up
If heās worth a shite you do.
Have to start your best team. You can forgive a lot when itās on the line. Same lads probably have given plenty for the club already. I think a fella knows if heās starting only to be whipped at half time because thereās better on the bench. It fucks them
Fair gut wrenching to be training and playing away only to be straight back on the bench when they land back
It is. A killer. But worse to be hauled off for the better fella when you know it was going to happen regardless. Imo. Most lads know the best team and know they arenāt on it.
Usually the lads in the states are the best players as well. Not like itās a marginal call.
But a tough call alright. And lads training away suffering
Better to start them than have half the team looking over their shoulder if they make a mistake and taking someone off after 10 minutes
Its hard whatever way you handle it.
Youāll be upsetting some members or your panel either way
Moving weekend in the Laois SHC.
Group A sees Rathdowney Errill sitting comfortably on top with 2 wins from 2 and into the semi final, following up their round 1 smoking of the champions, with a smoking of Rosenallis in Round 2. Rosenallis made a fight of it for the first half where they only trailed by 2 at the break, but ran out of gas in the second and were smoked by 20 in the end.
With a round to go, the SHC group stages are wrapped up bar the shouting. The Harps are already in the relegation final with their final game against Rathdowney Errill now a dead rubber. Clough Ballacolla smoked them in their second round game, 5-26 to 3-17, a bit of a shoot out that one. CB and Rosenallis will go into the quarter finals where they will play 2 and 3 in Group B.
Group B has been topped by Camross with a round to go. They smoked past an impressive Abbeyleix 2-19 to 1-18. Castletown put the latest nail in the Borris Kilcotton coffin, beating them 3-22 to 1-14. Castletown brought the smoke and Borris wilted dreadfully and will go into a relegation final against The Harps now. But not before Camross give them a few kicks in their third round dead rubber. Theyāll have it up their holes there Iād say.
Castletown and Abbeyleix head into the quarter finals with Clough Ballacolla and Rosenallis. Camross and Rathdowney Errill will twiddle their thumbs for the best part of a month awaiting their semi final opponents.
The 2nd Round of the Laois SFC throws in Thursday evening. The 1st round Smokers have moved into the Winners Section, while the Smokees have moved into the Losers Section. Winners of the Round 2 winners will head off into the Senior A Quarter Finals, losers of the Round 2 winners will go into Round 3, winners of the Round 1 Qualifiers will go into Round 3, while losers of the Round 1 Qualifiers will head off into the Senior B where they will be joined by the Round 3 losers, and the Round 3 winners will head into the Senior A Quarter Finals. Got it? Good.
Winners (Smokers)
Arles Killeen v Killeshin
Portarlington v Stradbally
Emo v OāDempseys
St Josephs v Ballyroan Abbey
Round 2 Qualifiers (Smokees)
Park Ratheniska v Courtwood
Ballyfin v Clonaslee St Manmans
Portlaoise v Rosenallis
Graiguecullen v The Heath
Few highlights here. Killeen v Killeshin has a lovely recent history and could very well be a bloodbath. I expect Killeshin to have enough but not before war breaks out.
Joes v Ballyroan is the clash of the coming forces. Both will win titles over the next decade I reckon. Iāve no idea how this will go, if pushed Iād say Ballyroan.
Poor Rosenallis got a stinker of a draw, but might suit them in the long run to bow out before Round 3 and have a breather for their dual players by not playing that round and head off into the Senior B.
Its a minefield for a club.
I know of one team who had four players on a lads holiday for 7 days but flew home the day before a match at the weekend just gone. They all started, played badly and the team got hammered. Now the atmosphere in the club is in danger of turning toxic over it with lads who hung around all summer not getting game time.
Its very hard for most clubs to set a precedent like what Ballygunner have set with Ian Kenny sweating away in the Intermediates after a few months travelling but sometimes a line has to be drawn.
