If kinnerk wasn’t there Clare would have none since 97. Your point about Kiely bringing in the right people has been proved wrong but sure keep going.
The problem with football aside from it being almost unwatchable, is its a fixed competition. And like all fixed competitions it’s tainted and dead in the water. And will remain there for years yet.
The gaa agreed to the funding, ant then chickened out of the second part of the agreement, that Dublin be subsequently split into three. They are now reaping what was sown.
If Kiely wasn’t there, Kinnerk would likely have left the Limerick set up long ago. Davy Fitz struck lucky in 2013 when he had Kinnerk. But Davy was a bollix, so he didn’t have Kinnerk for long.
It was Kiely who got Kinnerk in for Limerick in 2017, Wikipedia says so anyway, and Wikipedia is never wrong.
Kiely changed everything for Limerick hurling, because he was essentially Coach Taylor from Friday Night Lights. A man you’d trust with your life. A man prepared to tell white lies for the greater good of the group, as he did for Kyle Hayes.
Would you trust Davy Burke, or Davy Fitz with your life?
We didn’t win a game in the backdoor for about 11 years, yes we took Donegal and Meath to ET but we were still in the amateur era back then
Neutral venue
No
The standard has come way up. You can argue that the bottom 3 in leinster and top 3 in the joe mc are closer to each other than they are to the cats. Still giving them a prelim round is stupid if you ask me.
You wouldn’t but an intermediate team into the QFs of the senior championship at club level
Agreed, all tiers of hurling are competitive and improved. Football should look at this instead of looking down onnthe tailteann cup
Sure Tony kelly has munstsr medals falling out of his pocket now…
One of the very few times cars were parked outside my former residence for a game in TEG Cusack Park
The ganes are fixed for Thurles
They’re different sports with different traditions. The tradition of football is 31 counties plus London competing in the same championship.
The tradition in hurling is 12-14 counties competing at senior championship level.
The lower tier competitions in hurling fulfil a need that was there but was never satisfied before. These competitions fulfil a function and they don’t insult the participants.
These competitions say to participants: “we failed you before, now we’re offering you a decent programme of fixtures, with a chance to progress”.
Whereas the Heavenly Hiraani Tiger Lily Cup is an insult to its participants. It is depriving them of something they had before - equality under the format. Now they’re remedial losers, banished to Hawkfield and 12:30pm throw ins in front of a few overweight pint men with nothing else to do.
The Tracy Ullman Cup says to its participants: You are nothing, we don’t want you, get fucking lost.
Typical football mindset no wonder viewership and attendances are appalling
You’ve offered absolutely no counter argument but plenty of meaningless bluster.
I don’t even know what you’re trying to convey and neither do you.
The reality is this. The lower tier hurling competitions are ADDING something that wasn’t there previously.
The Tony Tubbs Cup is TAKING AWAY what was there previously.
There’s a woeful smell of new money off you lad.You must be only a young lad.
I’m Lead to believe Laois took a dive last weekend with the intention of winning the Joe Mc next year and getting Dublin and advancing to the All Ireland Quarters
You have massive horn that the football champship is sacered. The likes of Leitrim Longford Limerick and Waterford haven’t a hope of winning Sam Maguire. Tjey dont have a much change in winning the tailteann cup. A tiered system gives them a meaningful rpute to have a competitive championship and a chance at an all ireland championship of some form. At the moment its just the league. The Joe Mc for example gave those hurling counties like Laois, Offaly and Kerry some hope of winning at their level and a plateform to progress. Look at Antrim they are in a much better place. All these counties are vetter than christy ring but wont be winnimg Liam Mccarthy for at least a decade
Kiely started as selector with an u21 team that won a Munster, went on to be a selector of seniors that won Munster before taking the 21s and winning an AI. He’s far from a token, he earned his stripes.
Back to Cork
Connolly was well held yesterday. Shane Barrett has turned into Cork’s most important player and Brian Hayes gets better and better. Still have question marks over Dalton’s overall contribution and they missed Harnedy for puckouts. Joyce was not that comfortable in midfield although came into it at the end.
Defensively they looked leaky enough. Offaly got 38 shots off against them which should be a warning going forward.
Whether that 1-7 will be good enough to keep the score down in croke park is the big question. They certainly have the fire power at the other end.
They will have too much scoring power for Dublin who will start a sweeper to keep score down.
Thought Dalton was one of our best players yesterday, not sure why he was getting criticised.
Not looking like Joyce’s year. Twomey’s poise and link up play are badly needed imo.
If Harnedy isn’t fit next week, would like to see ROF start.
