Maybe you’re not aware of this but I’d say most presidents have been considered to have pushed the boundaries of their office in their time. Any of the half decent ones anyway. I think Michael d has overstepped once or twice but he did apologise at least.

McGregor has played at doing a statesman persona before and I think could successfully perform this in a campaign. He would have the ability to make a presidential election about one issue - immigration. He would say there is a conspiracy by THE ESTABLISHMENT to demonise millions of people as racists and repeat it over and over again. This strategy has been shown to work elsewhere, it dictates the terms of debate. Also presidential elections are a bit like by-elections. The potential for a protest vote is massive.

I don’t think McGregor would win, but I think there’s scope for him to hoover up 25-30% of the vote on a higher than usual turnout. You probably wouldn’t win with that but it you’d be pretty much assured of a strong second second place. Doing such would be classed as a victory for him.

I say hes biggest flaw might be he doesnt understand the president really has little to no power. He did give elon a run down on getting the nomination, which i dont think he’ll even get

This is a ridiculous discussion. McGregor is an incredibly unpopular person in Ireland now. He wouldn’t have a pups chance. He might have had a hope in 2015 or he might have a hope in America but it seems mental to me that ye are even slightly considering this as a prospect. Even his natural gurriers in Dublin constituency are mostly embarrassed by him especially the ones who would ever cast a vote. People in Ireland are quietly anti immigration. A snakey candidate who pretends not to be but actually is would do well. Not a coke fuelled loudmouth with a string of sexual assault allegations roaring from the rooftops about it.
