The short answer is an average of 3 to 4 matches per round (guaranteeing a minimum of 81 games across the home-and-away season), plus every single Finals match and the Grand Final.
It is normal to watch the Champions League Magazine at 2:20pm on a Saturday afternoon on RTE 2 but one always wishes for a live GAA match at that time, it is natural to want to see a live GAA match at that time.
It’s absolutely arguing black is white for the sake of it to say there should not be more matches on free to air tv. From a pure games promotion view it’s a very very bad idea by the gaa. They should be paying rte to show more. They’d make the money back and some.
You’re missing the point. The point is I was trying to write in the style of a continental football player being translated into English by a spoken voice on the Champions League Magazine show because the stilted, characterless translations of what are presumably deeply dull interviews anyway are funny to the intelligent viewer who likes the absurdity of dullness, like me.
It is normal that people miss the point in such a situation.
I personally think the GAA are better advised to continue to invest money into their grassroots of the organisation rather than paying RTÉ to show Cavan v Dublin
The afl argument is that they show all finals games on pay tv and free to air. They want to promote their games best they can.
With the new format the gaa could simple decide they want as many games as possible to be free air. They might lose money in the short term but in the long term the games would be more popular and become even more popular with advertisers.
Why couldn’t they make this choice?
