Didnât we used to have lots of streets named after Brits that we changed the names of?
Thatâs very true.
The brother in law says to me one day that we wouldnât have much history in Ireland if it wasnât for the English. He was referring to buildings and infrastructure in that comment and he was right of course.
Iâd have to agree with the renaming of all the OâConnell streets but that was in relation to what the English did back then. Not what they are doing now.
These things need to be given time in my opinion and if in ten years time people still want change then so be it.
Pulling down statues of Saddam was fine in my opinion also, but the Taliban destroying old Buddhist statues I couldnât agree with at all.
I respect your opinion.
Thatâs absolute nonsense.
Would we have stayed living in mud huts forever if the english hadnât arrived?
But the brother in law said it?
We probably would be to some extent.
We were standing in the middle of the square in the centre of Kilmainham when he uttered those words.
Do you think we should knock places like Kilmainham and Dublin Castle? The GPO even? Or would a cheap rename whitewash over the cracks?
The brother in law is a very intelligent man, Iâll have you know.
Iâd imagine our built environment would be considerably different and less attractive.
We did a grand oulâ job of making it less atttractive anyway in the 1960s and 1970s.
But I suppose so did they to their own built environment around that time.
This park was only named in 1995?
I donât give a shit either way what name it is.
What park?
Jasus, thatâs some plaque when you read it.
Oh rock off Rockall your plaque will fall
Fuck Israelâs greedy hands
For theyâll meet the same resistance
That they did in the Holy Land
Irelanistan
That one made me laugh.
They havenât changed em all in Cork yet
Helen the surfer falling in. Kell surprise.
Thatâs a completely different article to the one I linked above five hours ago.
RTE making it up as they go along.
Does Helen surf?
I donât understand that.
I donât know if Limerick still has them.
Thereâs a misconception about Lord Edward Street by some people.
I generally agree with Martin on this and itâs virtue signalling from the People Before Profit crowd but RTE using Lindsay Graham as a reference point for outrage is pathetic aswell.
