Aberdeen v Celtic

Good 4-0 win for Aberdeen at Kilmarnock today and with Celtic losing at home to Motherwell, the Dons are just one point behind now - albeit Celtic have a game in hand.

Its been good stuff of late again from Aberdeen. After the record breaking 8 straight wins to start the season, there was a horrible run of just point from 5 games, but in the last 6 games, its been 16 from 18 points.

thanks for the stats mate

Massive win for the Dons today, @GeoffreyBoycott. They were down to ten men and a goal behind before storming back to win in Dingwall.

The importance of that result cannot be underestimated. Ross County are no pushover, particularly at Dingwall. Next up now is Celtic’s visit to Pittodrie on Wednesday night.

Is tomorrow nights game on the box?

It’s on Sky Sports something or other, pal.

I’ll be watching this match chez @Bandage. He promises drinks and nibbles. Will hardly sleep a wink tonight in anticipation.

Aberdeen starting team for tonight:

Brown, Logan, Taylor, Reynolds, Shinnie, Hayes, Storie, McLean, McGinn, Church, Rooney

Some real Irish interest here with a former Donaghmore gaelic footballer Niall McGinn and two Dubs - Jonny Hayes and Adam Rooney all in the starting XI.

He won an All Ireland minor along with Colm Cavanagh and Cathal McCarron.

Didn’t know that. Was he a starer/impact sub or just on the panel?

He was a starter from what I recall.

2004

Just had a look there at the match programme for the 2004 All Ireland Final. McGinn was right corner back. McCarron was only a sub.

On further inspection, Niall McGinn is Niall McGinn of Eskra and Cathal McCarron is Cathal McCarron of Omagh meaning they are not the Niall McGinn or Cathal McCarron in question.

FFS sake.

McGinn and McCarron actually played with that minor winning side at u21 level.

The U21 team began their championship in blistering style with a ten-point victory against DĂșn
na nGall in Healy Park, but failed to maintain the momentum when facing Ard Mhacha in the
Ulster semifinal in Lurgan. Perhaps in hindsight the easy first-round victory created a false
impression among players that they wouldn’t have to work hard in all matches to earn success at
this level; maybe, there was a feeling that their major success from three years earlier when
winning the minor All-Ireland title, would be enough to frighten off the opposition.

The U-21 players who represented TĂr Eoghain in the championship of 2007 were:
Jonathan Curran (Coalisland), Damian McCaul (Donaghmore), Cathal McCarron (Dromore), P J
Quinn (Moortown), Brendan Boggs (Owen Roes), Ciaran McGinley (Errigal Ciaran), Martin
Murray (Cookstown), Raymond Mulgrew (Capt.) (Cookstown), Colm Cavanagh (Moy), John
Kelly (Errigal Ciaran), Marc Cunningham (Killeeshil), Ronan McRory (Errigal Ciaran), Conor
O’Donnell (Omagh), Aidan Cassidy (Augher), Cathal McCarron (Omagh), Greg Kelly
(Stewartstown), John Gilmore (Cookstown), Niall Kerr (Coalisland), Jason McAnulla (Omagh),
Gerard McCaughey (Aghaloo), Niall P McGinn (Donaghmore), Shane O’Hagan (Clonoe), Dean
O’Neill (Omagh), Shaun O’Neill (Dromore), Paul Marlow (Eskra)

You can see them in the team photo on page 23 here.

Stunning strike from Jonny Hayes to put the Dons ahead.

Ian Crocker was talking earlier on commentary about how Jonny Hayes was recently bitten by a dog and was treated by a Dr. Barker.

How appropriate that he comes up with a strike to which you can only respond: “Woof!”

Church makes it 2-0 from a corner and Celtic fans can only respond “Christ”.

No surprise in conceding twice anyway. Had actually started well enough but we do that frequently. We just fall apart.
