200k a year , what does this lad do !
But sure his life now sounds atrocious
Yeah - it aint easy … but would you rather be struggling for a few years where you want to be, or locked away for 5 years in a place you hate / resent ? No easy answer … Like I said, exhaust all other avenues first … surely he can get a small bit of breathing space with the crowd he owes … cut back on life style a little i.e make smart choices. … If he’s willing to saddle up and work like a mother fucker for 5 years no matter what, then off you go … it’s a lot for someone in their 50s tho … completely different if you were 10-20 years younger
Moving to a new country is very costly. Sounds like he has zero savings only debt. You have to stump up a year’s accommodation there up front I think. Kids starting school, furnish a house. Reckon he can forget holding onto the house at home. He will not be saving any money in the first few years, servicing his debts and wife spending like crazy in a new environment and trying to fit in. Sounds like he’s in the shit at home so might be better off but it will be for the long haul or he’ll be in a worse position than going out there.
Could he not encourage the wife to go get a full time job? I presume the two youngest can walk to school in Ballyragget? An extra 3 or 400 euro a week would make a big difference to them.
Could he declare himself bankrupt altogether and fuck off to Abu Dhabi for a new start
Best of luck with it @iron_mike - Just try get home for a championship match every year and i’ll see you for a pint.
Does he know his wife is spending crazy . Shes probably calling him useless and a waster . And the poor lad breaking his back
Good idea - a yard sale - sell off all the shit she’s bought over the years and flog her jewelry.
First 50 grand will go on rent anyway. A lot of places pay in full up front for year…youd make money there but need savage discipline to hold onto it. V good pal of mine is there for last 10 years. Makes a fortune but lifestyle fills it and uses it. He goes on 10 holidays a yr to get away from the place and the hate
Could he not just go there on his own and send her back an allowance every month?
Mike could offer to cut the lawn for him while he is away.
I wouldn’t give him any advice. You’re not in his shoes and cant walk for him.
Might work out great, might not.
Advice is a dangerous weapon.
Be careful whose advice you buy but be patient with those who supply it
Advice is a form of nostalgia, dispensing it is a way of fishing the past
From the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts
And recycling it for more than it’s worth
I’m also wary of the 200k a year.
Salaries aren’t what they used to be out there.
That’s the advice I’d give as well @iron_mike. Tell him the truth. You don’t know enough about the place to give him any advice.
thats unreal
That’s horseshit for a start. If he’s on 60k he’s probably bringing home 700 quid a week or 2800 a month, give or take. His 300k mortgage repayments are only 1500 quid or if he’s on a tracker it’s 1300.
These cunts are simply living way beyond their means. Modern Ireland in a nutshell.
After a year there he should know the lie of the land and can disappear the wife in the desert.
But other than that obviously go for five years and sort himself out financially, otherwise be miserable and getting into further debt for longer here.
