AFL 2026

They are expanding the playoffs to 10 teams now.

Dont like that. 8 was fine. 10 just seems like more games for the sake of it.

A fucking joke.

They’ve abolished the bounce as well and a night Grand final will surely happen.

Sporting administrators ruin everything.

Huge rumours doing the rounds in Melbourne since the summer of 2024. A man from a huge family name in AFL accused of rape.

In other news former Carlton player Jack Silvagni, son of Cartlon great Stephen Silvagni and grandson of Sergio Silvagni, joined St Kilda as a free agent and is looking likely to miss the start of the 2026 season. His brother Tom looks like he wont be around to support him next season.

Oh dear

They walked out when the victim was giving her impact statement. There is a way to support your son and family, but to go after the victim when there was evidence and a full court case which found him guilty is pretty fucking lousy.

Collingwood sending out letters to club members over the age of 50 asking them if theyd like to change their will and leave something to collingwood in it. Some neck

Sad news that the great Dennis Cometti has passed away

A truly top tier commentator to stand with the greatest in any sport, ever.

Thank you Dennis.

This is my favourite match ever played, featuring my two favourite commentators Dennis and Robbo, and some of the greatest, most ICONIC players to ever kick a Sherrin like the Dipper, Brereton, Platten, Dunstall, and of course Ablett.

You knew watching the one hour highlights package of this on Channel 4 at 10am on Saturday October 6th, 1989 that you were watching the very best of world sport.

Simply perfection.

He was an absolute stalwart.

I remember that final, incredible

Ladder prediction:

1 Sydney - will be back with a bang after last year’s lull
2 Gold Coast - they have Christian Petracca now and he should propel then into being a top tier contender, expect them to go full house at home and win their fair share away
3 Adelaide - should consolidate after topping the ladder last year
4 Brisbane - Brisbane teams always do three in a row but never top the ladder
5 Hawthorn - good but are they good enough
6 St. Kilda - this year’s major upward movers out of mediocrity
7 Freo - good but not quite good enough
8 GWS - another year of respectable also-ranness awaits
9 Geelong - last year’s Grand Final defeat and its comprehensive nature could be damaging
10 North Melbourne - after making the move from shit to mediocre, it’s now time to make the move from mediocre to passable and then get a pasting in the first ever finals match played by a 10th placed team
11 Footscray - stale, moving slightly downwards
12 Collingwood - stale, moving steadily downwards
13 Port Adelaide - is there life after Coach Hinkley, maybe, maybe not
14 Melbourne - now a thoroughly downsized entity like Wernham Hogg
15 Carlton - going absolutely nowhere, 2023 was a flash in the pan
16 West Coast - going sideways to nowhere
17 Richmond - bottoming out
18 Essendon - a case study in failure

Not a hope the Swans will top the ladder

Some win for the Eagles today. Thats 2 now, already more than all of last season and only 3 games in.

April looks hard for the Eagles and they’ll probably lose their next four but they have a lot of very winnable fixtures in May and June and they could make the jump to the mediocre tier of teams by season’s end.

Early indications of the season are:

i) Footscray might finally be getting things together for another tilt at the flag.
ii) Gold Coast will also be tilting
iii) St. Kilda are still very much a work in progress - I saw their final quarter v Brisbane the other night when I couldn’t sleep thinking about Ryan Manning pulling yer man back - they were in position to win with 15 minutes left and then promptly conceded about seven goals on the spin
iv) GWS are sliding, Port Adelaide are sliding further
v) West Coast and North Melbourne look like lifting out of the bottom tier
vi) Essendon are indeed as bad as was predicted here, it’ll be a battle between them and Richmond for the wooden spoon

Back to the norm

Not a serious sport lads

Care to revise that?
