I am in complete disagreement there. While he was an excellent minor & u-21 hurler for Limerick, I feel his displays at senior level (bar the Dublin game in 2009) have left a lot to be desired. One of the top half backs he certainly is not. I would start Cathal King any day of the week ahead of him.

Really? Which game? I thought he was very good last year and one of our best players against Clare. I think Gary is confusing his eye catching long range free taking and sideline in that Dublin game with general play. Generally, the amount of hooks and blocks he gets in is very high, and his use of the ball when in possession is probably the best of any of our backs -watch any game last year and compare what he does with the ball to Paudie on the other wing.
Your clutching at straws here, he has been poor for a couple of years now. He looks anorexic this year as well.
Are dodge and Tom Ryan your only genuine options to put back in the wing outside of what’s there?
I thought Gav was solid last year, and certainly didn’t have a bad game in any of our matches… Something aint right with the guy this year, physically and mentally.
Against Clare last year GOM got dispossessed a good few times trying to run the ball out of the backs. He put the ball on the hurley and soloed every time he got it. He wan’t our worst player on the day but he was bad. He has been taken to the cleaners every game this year, whatever is wrong with him. Was lucky not to be at fault for a couple of goals against Wexford the last day, he is very indecisive this year, he isn’t committing to go and win the ball and is coming half way, coming out under the ball and getting caught in no mans land. His use of the ball at times the last day was poor too, which is very unusual for him. Unless he shows a major improvement early on against KK I’d whip him. If he starts getting cleaned again and he is left on, KK will murder him, the ruthless cunts.
A more clinical team than Wexford could have easily put 1-6 up in the first 15 minutes. At least 3 times lads dived in and completely over commited themselves going for the ball. The defending for Doran’s chance was very very slack, two men running to the ball carrier and he just pops it over their heads. Schoolboy stuff. Kilkenny will ate us alive if we let them do that.
KK give up lots of goal chances these days themselves.

Agreed. Paudie isn’t having a great year either. Neither of them are giving the full back line much protection. I hope TJ can sort this out before the semi final.
One thing that stands out in my mind about Gavin this year is against Tipp towards the end of the match he was absolutely gassed, his man ran across the pitch for a puckout and Gavin followed him for 10 yards and then stopped, Wayne Mac had to leave his man to follow Gavins man and get cover on, Gavin was marking no one. This was before Hickeys score when the match was still there for the taking. It is unusual, because he seems like a genuine enough player. Hopefully we see them both at their best the next day.

There are certain ways of putting your point across without offending people and putting your foot in your mouth and making yourself look like a complete idiot asshole. Hopefully for your own good you’ll learn this as you go through life.
