Albums You've Rediscovered

I stayed in a hotel across the river from those buildings. I copped them straight away.

Buffalo Tom - Let Me Come Over

They were on the Dave Fanning show when the news came through that Kurt Cobain had died.

Two albums I’ve been playing this week, no idea where the thought of listening to them came from, they just appeared and I’m all the better for them.

Alt-J Am Awesome Wav

The Cure - Disintegration

Just put Bat out of Hell on the turntable there. Must be one of the best intros to an album ever.

Radiohead - Hail to the Thief. It’s outstanding

The wheels of steel.

It’s sublime

Unrale as is Moondance

It’s not as accessible as the other stuff I know of his.

Long meandering songs almost jazz like.

Incredible for its time, particularly for a lad from Belfast.

The voice

Astral Weeks is incredible considering Morrison never met the musicians before the recording sessions and most songs were recorded on the first or second take. But maybe not as incredible as it seems given the caliber of top tier jazz musicians, Jay Berliner, Connie Kaye, Warren Smith Jn, but especially bassist Richard Davis who acted as musical director. All of the music was improvised in a few takes.

Good doc on it here. Van was struggling at the time he made it and it wasn’t critically acclaimed upon release.
