Alex Ferguson Managerial Career Discussion thread

Manchester United have been accused of offering French starlet Paul Pogba’s parents £175,000 and a house to sign. And the national youth team skipper’s Old Trafford contract will be worth more than £4,000-a-week when he turns 17 next year.

Livid Le Havre made the extraordinary claims yesterday as they stepped up the war of words aimed at United who snapped up their best youngster. President Jean-Pierre Louvel says United got the player by offering his mother and father the six-figure sweeteners and a place to live in Manchester.

And to think some players can be bought off with a simple birthday cake.

Sad times. Sad, sad, sad times.

None of them were anywhere near Pogba in terms of ability.

There’s the fact that Ferguson broke the transfer record for an 18 year old which also flies in the face of your theory.

I asked you to square them off yet you can’t. Ferguson has never been afraid to give teenagers their chance. Pogba is the biggest talent United had in their youth ranks in over 30 years yet Ferguson froze him our and let him leave for zilch.

And you’re still trying to argue he didn’t fuck up?

I guess the Anglo Irish Bankers never fucked up either.

Is this like Arsenal fans all being finance experts and proclaiming themselves the balance sheet champions for 10 years?

That’s a silly analogy. Anglo Irish Bank went to the wall. A better one might be a few of Warren Buffet’s punts gone wrong.

Giggs was a better talent surely??

Wayne Rooney was an established Premier League player with a top 10 team when he was signed. Pogba was a 17 year old who had not started a single game for Le Havre.

I’ve provided you with the fact and the figures that prove that Ferguson normally phases youth teams players into the first team at the age of 20.

Ferguson dealt with Pogba’s progression the same way he had with the best of youth players he had managed in the previous 20 years. Pogba and his agent did not like this and they decided that he said leave and join Juventus.

I’ve provided the hard statistics for you above there. Would you argue that Ferguson was incorrect in the manner that he integrated Paul Scholes, David Beckham, Nicky Butt and Gary Neville into the first team?

yes.

you can’t win anything with kids.

I think ye should argue this point some more, I’m not sure either of you has repeated themselves enough

I’m only reiterating the statistic as answers as he keeps asking the same question.

For some reason he seems to think that they’ll change if he keeps shouting.

'Tis only bizarre.

It’s bizarre that you are still engaging. This only ends one way. You finally get bored of it, he shouts ‘I won, I won!’ loudly for a while and we all move on.

What’s really bizarre is that der @Rocko fuhrer is letting this go on in the new era of boredom control banning.

Nope. I’ve provided hard statistics every time he’s asked for them.

By giving in like that and not sticking to your guns on something that you have hard evidence and statistics to back up you’re just feeding the troll that he is.

I’d probably be less reluctant to do it if the ignore function was reintroduced in fairness

no, he thinks your answer will change. I’m not sure if he has debated with you on here before though or maybe this is the typical immovable force meets an immovable object.

But I must say, you are wrong. In hindsight, Ferguson fucked up. If he really wanted Pogba to stay, he could have. You’ve already said its one of those gambles with the likes of Januzi and others, yet in this instance you are saying it was Pogba, not Ferguson making the call. It cant be both ways. If it was a call by Ferguson that didnt pay off, then that surely means he made the wrong call. It happens. He probably got more of those calls right than wrong. He got this one wrong. And it is costing Utd a lot more than it would have cost if he wasnt such a stubborn cunt and let an agent piss him off.

No he stuck to his guns and dealt with Pogba the same way as he did with all of his stars. Why would I change my answer? That’s a bizarre thing to think.

He only played Januzaj once or twice as well and he was handed over to Moyes then.

I accept that you think you know more about the murkier side of transfer dealing due to your shady association with it in the GAA but you will not redraw the parish lines on this one.

:sunglasses:

You’re making a fool of yourself. I can’t believe you’re persisting with this.

Ferguson made the right call on Jaap Stam though.

I’m making a fool of myself by basing my argument on hard facts and figures?

You might want to review your involvement in running an online discussion forum.

Did he make the right call on Jemba Jemba?

what do you think mate.

Djemba Djemba.

Also Alan Smith was a solid replacement for Roy Keane.

You’re dismissing facts and figures you imbecile.

Ferguson was willing to bank on breaking world records for Rooney but was willing to let Pogba go for nothing without a battle.

He got it badly wrong, you doe eyed child.
