All Hail John Delaney

They are matters of fact.

The media went for Dela but ignore holders of PUBLIC office and their corrupt practices even when they are brought out in the open light.

The Story of John Delaney is that of a modern day icarus - he flew too close to the sun. Begrudgery did for him for a finish. Irish folk hate nothing more than a flashy upstart kicking ass and getting shit done.

If Delaney pulled the same stroke you’d have lads hear using it to label him a genius for getting one up over the Scots.

No mention of lifting the spirits of the country during the recession by getting us to euro 2012.

He had to go lads.

He must be making twice the money now he ever made in the FAI.

agreed, the HFA hate Ireland

Whoever Delas stylist is should take a bow. The move from the white baggy suits and the helmet hair to the tailored clobber and swept back brylcreemed look was seismic.

The touch of a good woman i’d say

Four times I heard.
He has a gold card for expenses and a chauffeur.

Terri Crone?

He was the CEO of a national football association. I’m sure that went with the territory. I doubt if it’s the done thing to be rocking up to meet Chuck Blazer and Jack Warner in a hired Fiat Punto.

Not then, that was small beans. He’s in the big time now.

Chuck Blazer was a great name for a sports administrator .

What’s he actually doing? Is he Dinnys driver in London?

He’s moving and shaking.**

** I have no idea. He’s in some shadowy role fighting the virus for the NHS according to himself. I made the rest up.

I had to do a double take there ,looks like a young wolly Parkinson…

Fair point …he left the FAI in a great place for next person in…lads were queuing up to take over to build on Dela’s structures…

I had done the sums before but I think there was a way for him to get the debt cleared by 2020. That was by including 2020 in his “by 2020” statement. There was a large chunks of cash due in over 2019 and 2020 with bank debt of about €30m. Good chunk of 10 year tickets, new sponsorship deal, lump sum of UEFA tv money and other things. I’d assumed he’d have front loaded many of those things to pay down debt sooner. Probably wouldn’t have been possible without Euro 2020 qualification but there was actually a path to it. He’d probably have looked for a refinance on any small debt left so he could say he had cleared it.

His plan it seems was to get to Euro 2020, “clear the debt”, get his bonus and high tail it for UEFA.

What’s interesting is if he had muddled his way to 2020, he’d probably be okay. Covid would have resulted in a big bailout regardless and the books would have been cleared in many respects.

All of which is completely irrelevant when he should be judged on the fact that his used €80,000 of FAI to arrange his own birthday party, hid massive debt from the Government, mismanaged the finances of the association to the point where he basically threw away €120,000 in one night with a bar tab and awarding an unsolicited bonus.
