Very happy with that from a Derry point of view.
We are going to win this thing out.

Dubs are going to come in very untested against whoever comes through Mayo and Kerry battle …
Hardest draw possible for PJ’s men. Armagh will be favourites to beat us.
Nostradamus over here
It will be nice to see a new side emerge and make the final this year. Hard not to think that the semi final on the other side is the de facto final though but it should lead to a bit of colour in the build up
Be some craic when Mayo beat both Kerry and Dublin only to lose yet another final to an emerging nordie side in Derry/Armagh.
That would be brilliant.
It’s going to happen.
Everyone in that top bracket will be licking their lips.
Hard to see past Kerry v Dublin on the other side.
Bertie Aherm on Newstalk transitions seamlessly from Brexit to Dublin football. Emphasizes Dublin Cork games over the years have always been tight and Dublin won’t be looking beyond the next game.
Galway have a grand oul’ record against both Armagh and Derry.
Beat both of them in 2001 on their way to winning the All-Ireland.
Then again they beat both of them in 2015 as well on their way to losing in Qualifier Round 4.
This reminds me of a stacked bottom half Crucible quarter final draw from around 1997. Something like:
Ebdon v McManus
Williams v Bond
Hendry v Higgins
O’Sullivan v Doherty
Ken Doherty never played Ronnie O’Sullivan at the World Championship.
Stephen Hendry only played John Higgins once at the World Championship, which, incredibly, was a 2012 round of 16 clash which Hendry won 13-4. John must have been suffering jetlag after an unexpected trip to Ukraine between the rounds of 32 and 16. Hendry lost 13-2 to Stephen Maguire in the next round and promptly retired.
I think the one you’re thinking of is 1995 when the quarter-final draw was (winners in bold):
Nigel Bond v Gary Wilkinson
Peter Ebdon v Andy Hicks
John Parrott v Jimmy White
Stephen Hendry v Ronnie O’Sullivan
On that basis we will have a semi-final line up of:
Derry (Nigel Bond) v Armagh (Andy Hicks)
Mayo (Jimmy White) v Dublin (Stephen Hendry)
Hendry beats Bond in the final.
Of the three options Armagh definitely the toughest we could have got but Galway has a good record against Ulster teams in general. Apart from maybe Tyrone. Armagh have serious momentum now though and the 4 week break is a real thing to overcome.
Tough old draw for. Mayo but probably the best time to get Kerry if they have any chance.
Don’t forget Antrim.
PJ’s last appearance in the Maroon was against Antrim in that 2012 qualifier.
Sometimes players just know.
It’s opening up for a final appearance for someone; any of them would be a underdog against a Kerry/Dublin or even Mayo.
Armagh seem like a team you could get behind.
