Dublin were there to be got as don’t think Dessie started his best team. If Higgins, Boyle and Moran were still playing instead of o’shea It would be different gravy. Very hard to keep mayos frenzied first half up but they should have went for the jugular after half time when dubs a man down. Horan should have went after it big time and tried to hang on

I think the introduction of Howard was huge though. Mayo weren’t winning as much ball around the middle which slowed them up.

That said Keith Higgins should have been introduced even into the forwards I think.

enjoyed that game. Mayo threw the book at Dublin but Dublin steadied at half time and their subs were immeasurably better than Mayos. That Howard lad probably changed the game when he came on. By comparison that Darren Coen kicked away every chance Mayo had of getting back into the game.

It was very like the hurling. Both teams played well, close to their best, and there was really only ever one winner.
Here’s the problem. Mayo are without doubt the best side in the country outside Dublin. Mayo played well. Mayo tried with every sinew. They once again did themselves and their county proud. But really there was no point in that game where you thought they’d win it.
To beat Dublin you need to try like mayo did, play like mayo did (I thought they were excellent), and, have every little thing go your way (which they didn’t).
Mayo are utterly admirable, but it’ll take something freakish to beat the dubs, unless they start to lose interest (which is inevitable at some point).
