All Ireland Football Final 2020 Dublin v Mayo

4 Mayo starting forwards scored nothing today. Sure where are you going

Heā€™s never scored in an All Ireland final

Kilkenny Sunday Game POTY. Iā€™d have Con ahead of him all day every day.

Fenton for me

Could well be.

My point is heā€™s roaming around to get into the game and bringing dangerous opponents with him ā€¦

Ya I was shocked by that one today. I donā€™t know what his best role is for Mayo but Iā€™m not sure they get enough out of him. Heā€™s obviously a very good player, but having him inside with the Dublin full back line breaking everything off him and mopping it up seems a waste. Not sure he has the legs for midfield either though

Agreed. The heartbeat of the whole team, but those three lads are as they said already approaching all time great status

I thought Mayo were poor enough, sloppily gave away possession numerous times, and werenā€™t brave enough to go for goals which were needed.

I think this is Brollys main gripe with Mayo.Whats that 6 finals without a point?

Loftus made a Fenton like run in from the left shortly before half time and fisted it over the bar. You have to be going for goal in that position. Fenton would have. Or have somebody standing at the edge of the square on the far side to palm it into the net. Dublin would have.

They just werenā€™t able to manufacture them although the midfielder was through on the 21 in the first half but shot over a point when a few more strides would have been in goal range

Yes this was a big goal chance

Is AOS another David Moran, to some extent?

Eoghan McLaughlin might have had a goal chance in the second half but he spilled the ball at the crucial moment. The general handling and unforced error counts seemed quite high on both teams, but more so for Mayo.

I donā€™t think heā€™s as good to be honest.

Mayo did the hard things today, competed and won on a lot of Dublinā€™s kickouts and turned over their forwards a lot.
But then the simple things like keeping the ball under no pressure, donā€™t run into the cul de sacs of the Dublin defence and (I made it three) absolutely criminal shots that should have been scores that ended dropping short to Cluxton.
The missed hop when the Dublin defence had opened as well.
There was easily 4 times today where they won the ball back and gave it back very cheaply almost straight after. Fucking killer.
Arguably mayo were the better team for the first three quarters but then they went in level. The Dubs found another gear in the final quarter when Mayo were gassed, but if you kick those three shots over the bar, you go into the final quarter with a lead, Dublin are chasing you rather than you chasing them. Once they get in front you are finished because they are too fit, make them chase it and you might find gaps at the back. But there are very few obvious weaknesses.

Moran is more consistent, Oā€™Shea is maybe more explosive or dynamic; both struggle to put in a 70 minute performance?

I think he a Jack of all trades, master of none.

Oā€™Shea is a luxury player who if he was in the Dublin team would cause wreck. But heā€™s not the guy you need to rely on, and Mayo have to rely on him. He suffers from a sort of Austin Gleeson style syndrome where you donā€™t quite know where to play him. I donā€™t think anybody will ever crack that in his case.
