He had a time and place. Perfect foil for Bernard in 2010 and if Dublin needed to go direct he was useful. He used to beat the shit out of philly and cooper in training so no bad thing
Rough and ready alright
The year Dublin got two poxy goals (2016?)
Definitely
Yes. 2010 I recall him winning ball and not daring to kick himself and lay it off to Bernard. In fairness Bernard was unplayable that year.
Ah man the litany of what might have beens with Mayo since 2012 is endless. It would drive you up the fucking wall thinking about it. Thereâs enough there for two more Houses of Pain. Keith Duggan should do a Guns âNâ Roses and release House of Pain volumes 2 and 3 on the same day.
Jesus Christ though, what that team has given to the game and their county is remarkable.
Gavin screwed up himself that day in 2013, itâs part of why I thought Farrellâs inexperience might be an issue in this final but Dublin were good enough.
I think the psychological aspects of Gavinâs change from balls out attacking football to scientific management style football would be interesting. It seemed to me the more he went on, the more he feared losing, like, real paranoia about it. Gavinâs Dublin in 2013 were a wild ride. By 2017 it had gone scientific and by 2018 and 2019 it was mostly just dull. Farrellâs Dublin have pushed the scientific dullness boat out even more. At this stage Iâm sick of the All Blacks style focus on role models and shite like that. Dublin are just a personality void now.
Dublin need to make a ludicrous management decision to start making things interesting again. Sack Farrell and appoint Mark Vaughan or somebody as manager.
Any idea where Senan Connell parked the car?
Throw a Leinster best thing theyâll ever do,
Weâre throwing Munster next year
Apart from the one mentioned just before half time, I thought the Dublin defence was so good that they didnât concede mayo much of a goalscoring chance, despite mayo actually looking like they were trying for goals.
That bugler lad for Dublin played as well as anyone. Dublin were outstanding I thought, and mayo made it so they had to be. I donât mind the odd dropped ball, itâs more unfortunate than anything. Mayo were tactically sound, put the Dublin kickouts under great pressure, and did very well on their own. Dublinâs panel was just too strong, too deep, too fit, and really, too talented at what they do.
Thatâs a cheap shot photo of a man who, like him or loathe him, has given everything he has, and continues to, but has fallen just short.
I think he is absolutely admirable in that.
Heâs a very decent fella. I know someone who worked closely with him on the Do it for Dan this year and he couldnât have been more supportive. Mayo are lucky to have him, the only problem is they need 2 or 3 more of him.
Itâs a photo, not a shot at his character
OâShea is a bad egg.
Kenneally and Holmes sussed him out.
Yup. He acted above his station there. I really think OâShea can be more of a hindrance to Mayo than an asset.
@anon67715551 what was the general mood at the time around the country to Kerryâs success under Micko? Weâre they seen as unassailable and that they would be the end of the game and redress was needed or was it just a shoulder shrug and an âah sure lookitâ
There was no INTERNET then so hard to gauge
The lack of social media probably resulted in little of the above. People are more or less sheep. The narrative that Dublin needs to be broken up etc., is driven by social media, people row in behind this. I doubt any similar discussion about Kerryâs dominance ever arose.
Boxty surely chewed the cud on it at many a Fianna FĂĄil gathering
