I’m not blaming the players at all. They’re the ones who normally get rode and pulled from all angles.
It’s an institutional thing in most counties. When the county team is doing well, delegates want everything called off and want everything played when they’re struggling. There’s no balance.
The lack of collective preparation will hinder Waterford as I happen to think they’re better than most believe and would give them every chance of knocking off Cork in May. On the other hand, players will be getting decent club matches which may be worth more than constant training and meaningless challenge games.
I’m not sure that playing the likes of Tallow, Roanmore and Ardmore in the muck and shit of Walsh Park will do much to bring the players on.

Article mentions they were off warm weather training - so can it be financial
GAA probably need to centralise seasons and lay out parts of the April to September calendar for club games and also set a time for no games but counties and clubs want it every way and it is not fair on players either - simple way may be to just ban county players playing with clubs and separate the two completely
Knifing him? How so Fagan? I know ye love to tear strips off each other down there but is this personal against McGrath, or is it a club faction thing?

Jaysus they’d be hiding lads in the back of the shed in Galway.

Yes it’s financial. The players paid for the warm weather training themselves through fundraising.
It’d be a bit of both. The clubs in the West haven’t forgiven the players for the way Scully Ryan was shafted and the county board have a major issue with the money that McGrath is costing them.
Is he costing them that much more than Ryan did last year though?
Whether it’s a financial reason or not, it’s a good move going forward. Wrapping inter county players up in cotton wool thinking they are less likely to get injured playing challenge matches or in house matches as opposed to club games is ridiculous.
Luckily, the Co Board in Tipperary are playing plenty of club Hurling & inter county panelist are expected to play for their clubs.

I believe Clare have let players back to their clubs for the first two rounds of the league and round three on Easter Monday as well. But are unavailable for round four due to a warm weather training camp they are going on next week
How it should be done, simples.
Clare players are playing Tipp on Sunday and playing club games on Monday?
are they training Monday morning as well?
No wonder they need the drugs
is McGrath really a brother in law of Mullane as someone told me over the weekend?
It was reported in the media that he was around the time of his appointment
Don’t think anyone would have an issue with players playing for their clubs. I don’t anyway. The issue is that the players are prohibited from training with the county for 4 weeks
Dr Ferrari’s warm weather training.
