All Ireland Hurling Championship 2014

That is odd. Prohibited by who, and for what public reason? Burnout?

The County Board. The official reason is that the players should be released back to their clubs for two series of club matches and not have the distraction of training for the county over that period. That and that’s what the clubs want.

Sure that’s no harm. Clubs all across the country have nurtured the talented players and coached them to the standard required for inter county hurling. These clubs shouldn’t be at a disadvantage because one or two of their players are then involved in an All Ireland championship campaign with the county. There’s plenty of time for both club and county scene to exist together. Maybe the clubs have resigned to the fact that the Waterford senior hurling team are destined to fail this year.

Leinster SHC half-time: London 1-11 Carlow 2-05

It finished a draw, dramatic start to the 2014 hurling championship.

Half times.

Antrim 1-11 Carlow 0-12

Westmeath 1-05 Cheddars Laois 0-05.

FT Laois 1-15 Westmeath 1-9.

RTE again.

No highlights of todays two matches in the hurling championship. Instead they decide to have a hurling championship preview discussion instead.

Fuck RTE. Laois made hard work of it today, probably set up better to play against better teams but Mahers goal and Willie Hylands points saw us home. A win made in Clough Ballacolla

Up the hill and down the holla!

Waterford are goosed.

Waterford manager Derek McGrath has suffered a devastating triple injury blow with confirmation that Philip Mahony, Maurice Shanahan and Stephen Molumphy have all been ruled out of the Munster SHC quarter-final with Cork on May 25.

Mahony, 23, suffered a broken leg and dislocated ankle during Ballygunner’s SHC victory over Ardmore yesterday and will miss the entire season.

Shanahan did not start for Lismore in their victory over Tallow but after coming on as sub, the 24-year-old aggravated a back problem and is facing a month on the sidelines.

Molumphy pulled a hamstring playing for Ballyduff against Mount Sion last Friday evening and as things stand, the 30-year-old former team captain is also out of the Semple Stadium clash.

This latest news compounds an already dire injury situation that has affected Waterford this season. Long-term injury victims Stephen Daniels and Brian O’Halloran have already been ruled out.

Jake Dillon, who recently underwent knee surgery, is rated as 50/50 to feature against the Rebels and Richie Foley recently suffered a fresh setback on the comeback trail following hip surgery.

2013 All-Ireland minor medallist Stephen Bennett is another concern as he continues rehabilitation on hip injuries.

Another former team captain, Shane O’Sullivan, is also ruled out through suspension after he was red-carded in the Allianz League relegation playoff against Dublin.

Fuck it, that’s a tough break. With a full deck you’d have given Waterford every chance but this could be a bridge too far.

There is something wrong when a lad as young as Stephen Bennett is having recurrent hip problems. Those injuries sound awful, especially the fracture disc location. One of our lads did the same in the most innocuous looking contact playing the sevens a couple of years back. The Consultant said it looked like his ankle had exploded. Awful news. Wish them all well.

and what a shit championship preview discussion it was. short and boring. this all following one of the most exciting championships of all time. same old drab shite. the more one thinks of it - give the whole lot to sky and TG4.

Bennett has had hip problems for years and years.

Hasn’t Bennett always come back too soon from injury and ended up doing more damage.

Serious talent though and has loads of time to play I/C. No need to rush him.

Predictions

Munster: Tipperary to overcome Cork in the final
Leinster: Kilkenny to overcome Wexford in the final
All Ireland: Cork to beat Kilkenny

Shocks in early championship - Wexford to beat Dublin in Leinster semi-final.
Dublin to then beat Clare in qualifier.

If Tipp beat Cork in the Munster final and Kilkenny won the Leister final, would Cork not have to play Kilkenny in the semi final?

You may be right.

Unless Wexford qualify for semi-final.

I also didn’t specify the final for the Cork/KK prediction although I will say it was what I intended but in true tfk fashion I should say - “You simpleton, where did I even mention the final for KK v Cork”

Wexford beating Dublin wouldn’t be a shock.
