All Ireland Hurling Championship 2014

Waterford will need goals…I know this is stating the obvious, don’t see where from. Young team, dig in and battle, learning curve. Good performance and a nice qualifier draw allowing injured players back and you could see them moving through the rnds. Great HB line, looking forward to seeing Fives again

Is that young O’Halloran lad still on the panel? Small, pacy lad at corner forward. Demented Davy threw him in for his championship debut a few years ago (may have been an All-Ireland semi final?) but I’ve not heard much of him since.

Yes but a pale shadow of his former self. Agent Davy ruined him.

he;s been injured all year, started v CLare last year in thurles

 1. Stephen O Keeffe Ballygunner
 2. Tadgh Burke Clashmore / Kinsalebeg
 3. Liam Lawlor Fourmilewater
 4. Noel Connors Passage
 5. Jamie Nagle Dungarvan
 6. Michael Walsh Stradbally Captain
 7. Barry Coughlan Ballygunner
 8. Kevin Moran De La Salle
 9. Eddie Barrett De La Salle
 10. Colin Dunford Colligan
 11. Pauric Mahony Ballygunner
 12. Austin Gleeson Mount Sion
 13. Brian O Sullivan Ballygunner
 14. Shane Walsh Fourmilewater
 15. Jake Dillon De La Salle.

And came off injured earlier in the game IIRC. Roasted Pat O’Connor in the League that year as well. Has had persistent hamstring injuries I believe

No Fives

We go again

Waterford are positioned quite similarly to the Wexford 2012 vintage - a raft of injuries, recently retired leaders, bringing in a number of inexperienced players at the same time. They should take heart that we’re genuine All Ireland contenders a mere 2 years later.

Don’t follow?
From what I’ve seen team might be something like…

A. Nash

S. O’Neill D. Cahalane C. O’Sullivan

L. McLoughlin M. Ellis W. Egan

A. Walsh D. Kearney

C. Lehane S. Harnedy P. Cronin

A. Cadogan P. Horgan S. Moylan

Definite subs used: P. O’Sullivan, J. Coughlan, B. Lawton.
What’s the story with McDonnell Turenne? Just not good enough? Or I that just your favoured team?
I really have only limited viewing of Ellis, do you think he can make the grade?
Half back line is still a concern.
Is Walsh an option for No. 6? He make be a bit loose for there having so much freedom all his life, but he is physical and dominant in the air. It’s a major issue for Cork. I would seriously consider Shane O Neill there if corner back was sorted.

The front 8 has so much hurling though, frightening pace, skill and power combination if they strike form together.

I think Waterford should put Moran midfield or No. 11 and get him running at Cork H/B line. I could see frees and black cards there. They will need goals and this could b the avenue. Cahalane is getting better all the time but is still in-experienced so I really think Waterford need to go route one with a mix of striking an central running.

Still expect Cork to win though, but it won’t be easy. Waterford believe they are on our level now thru confidence gained over the last 10 years between senior an underage and I think the fear and aura of Cork is well gone. They won’t lie down and I always liked this coach McGrath, I saw him up close with DLS and was really impressed. If nothing else they’ll put in a performance and that’s all you can ask.

There is no black card in hurling.

He hasn’t a fucking notion o_O

Some cracking young hurlers on that Waterford team. This year might be too soon for them though. Bourke, Gleeson and Dunford all serious hurlers.

I presume Fives hamstrings are acting up again.

Ya forgot about that. We’re only having the meeting with the refs tonight, 3 games into the year.

The idea still stands.

This had to be quoted, holy fuck

Jesus Kev

Kev, I haven’t seen them much recently, but I’d expect Clare to give us a bit of a roasting if Cahalane, Ellis and Walsh start, all three are slow in the feet and the hands for inter-county hurling as of right now.

Looks like Cork are selected to break even out the pitch and score more goals than the opposition inside.

Need to beat Waterford first.
Assuming they do then against Clare Cork really should drop an extra defender back to play in front of the full back line - they have the forwards to outscore any team if they don’t concede silly goals.

@Fagan ODowd how many of the lads who are currently injured will be back for the qualifiers? Shane O’Sullivan should be back. Add Fives, Richie Foley, Mulomphy and Daniels to the mix and it should be a very strong middle third
