All Ireland Hurling Championship 2018

Looks like Wexford have secured a Leinster venue for the potential quarter final. Great GGA diplomacy by Wexford County Board.

A true football purist .

I was going to ask what’s your source  Any link to this?

Spoofapedia!

I can’t reveal my source but we’ll be in Croke Park with one of the Super 8 games on 14/15 July. It’s not Nowlan Park, and it’ll actually suit Clare too, but it’s better than the Thurles shithole/graveyard.

Portlaoise?

I remember Clare and Wexford playing on a swelteringly hot Sunday evening back around 2002.

Can you confirm that the QFs will be stand alone fixtures?

Six days after we lost to Kilkenny in the Leinster final. I think Rory Jacob made a cameo off the bench and Paul Codd scored a goal at the end that brought us right back into it.

I was at Witness and had a press press so was watching it with one of the local reporters from home.

Normally I’d be thrilled with this as it’d give me the chance to get down to see Donegal and Wexford in Croker on the one weekend but Mrs Croppy is away on International Business so I’ll be watching with Croppy Jr in the Far North.

I was looking forward to a trip to Cork.

@briantinnion what’s the story with the 3 year deal?

Thankfully I have already cancelled my booking in Hayfield Manor (replaced with an alternate booking to the Cliff House, see separate thread).

I’m surprised that we’ll be in Croke Park. I was certain there had been a deal for hurling quarter finals to be played in Cork.

Is it possible that @Bandage is telling pork pies?

Some joke if, as that article above suggests, they televise two A-I football mini league group matches ahead of two last six knock out hurling championship games.

They didn’t renegotiate the TV deals after the structures were changed. Wooly has mentioned this many times on the Podcast.

Yeah I know, the height of stupidity from the GAA really - increase the number of games in both football and hurling substantially mid tv contract with RTE and Sky but don’t make any allowance for extra live televised matches. I’d imagine both RTE and Sky would happily show more games if they could, or even throw TG4 a bone and hand them say 5 live championship games a year (separate to the existing deal with the other two broadcasters).

Sunday week is a bit awkward, the World Cup final on one side and either football or hurling on the other, meaning one is going to lose out whatever happens.

Knock out matches in one code should always get priority over group stage/non knock out in the other.

Surely Davy v Clare and Kilkenny/Galway v Limerick would be more appealing than any first round football quarter final like say Kerry v Galway…?

Fuck em - we’ll be arm in arm in Pairc Ui Chaoimh roaring on Limerick.

Being box office, they’ll have the Limerick game at 4 tho so there’s no way we will see the world cup.

That Galway-Kerry game in Croke Park the day of the World Cup Final will have about 500 people at it. Should be in Limerick

Hill 16 would be empty if a Dubs match clashed with the World Cup final.

Especially if England get there
