Cork have won a single semi-final since 2006, they could do with a spell in the Joe McDonagh.
There is only 1 traditional county in Leinster and that is Kilkenny .
Dublin no ; anything won with culchies
Wexford had no hurling till the mid fifties
Offaly started in the 1980s
Galway were whipping boys in Munster and things only happened in the 70s
Laois probably a better tradition than any of these .
They should split Munster in 2 so the likes of Limerick and Waterford might get to win a game or 2
Irrelevant to the conversation
But shur thats what your angling for.
No itâs not. I donât know where you got that from
I donât know how you put up with it?
Its as close as it will come. Youre essentially saying that the likes of Laois and Carlow should not be afforded every opportunity to compete with the rest and get themselves up to standard. Theyâre not going to do it in two years and theyâre certainly not going to do it getting regulated every second year.
The formbook would suggest that Dublin will be relegated to the Joe McDonagh next year.
They will introduce a play off v the worst team in Munster to see
Portlaoise could do something themselves there for a start, what theyâve let happen to hurling in that town is nothing short of a disgrace. It was never a stronghold but theyâre better than where theyâve been in recent years.
They wonât be there to drift away if theyâre sent back down next year after a year like this.
In 1999 they were in a Leinster club final .
No Iâm not. I think the current system is good where if they win the Joe McDonagh they get into a last 8 game and 4 games against good opposition the following year
Theyâre not going to do it until theyâre competing well against Kilkenny, Wexford and Dublin at underage most years. Any win is just a flash in the pan until then
The GAA should tell RTE that they will not give them the rights to the All Ireland Senior Championships unless there is one lower tier game televised each week. Theyâll be quick enough to give it coverage then, the prestige will grow and the competition will be seen as something that is great to win rather than just a means to an end
So while they have the makings of a half decent senior team at the moment, let them drift away until they get their underage sorted? Yeah thatâll get all the young lads picking up Hurley alright
Carlow winning the Joe McDonagh was a bigger boost to hurling in the county than the damp squib of this year after an encouraging opening result turned out to be
Just like this year will almost definitely be a better year for Laois hurling than next year
The gaa should have started their own channel. Theyâd have made a fortune. Replay all the great games during the week. Proper analysis show and preview show.
For how long? I was at the preliminary quarter against them last year and over 7000 turned up to witness it. I would argue that holding Galway to six and Laois giving a decent account of themselves against Tipp would be a bigger incentive to drive on. But hard to do when you find yourself in fro t of a couple of hundred supporters in the first round of the Joe McDonagh
