I donât see why not,
Itâs a large county with a hurling tradition, youâd expect that thereâs a few capable of producing the goods at that level but theyâd have their work cut out, as mentioned here often there arenât a huge amount of top class defenders around the county
Not a chance of an outside manager.
I vote for kev.
Can you imagine the interviews?
But @backinatracksuit doesnât see why not. I assume he is just being disingenuous rather than just conceding the point.
By the same token I doubt we will ever see Tipp or Kilkenny with one either. Barring a massive famine.
If you were the cork county board would you think McGrath would be good for the job? Perceived weakness at the back and McGrath has a preference for sweepers. Cork and their public would hate sweepers. I wouldnât take McGrath. If they could get Allen on board to straighten the ship for one year they should snap him up.
Dont, just dont.
Would the cork county board allow Donal og to take on the poison chalice.??
The ship doesnât need a whole lot of straightening though. They are a competitive side who have a bit of a soft underbelly as opposed to an indisciplined or unorganised side needing someone to come in and instill a culture.
They have a lot of good athletic hurlers coming through and I would expect the likes of Connery, OâRegan, Millerick, Turnbull and OâLeary Hayes to get a serious blooding under a new managment and some of the mainstays of the last five years like Nash, Kearney, Cahalane, Eoin Cadogan, Joyce, Ellis and a few others potentially to be move on.
There is plenty of raw material to work with but they need to gut the panel and use 2020 as a rebuild and blood the younger lads ahead of some of the nearly men of the last few years. There will be no lack of people in Cork to look for the job with some of the young talent coming through and with the right appointment will be a fine side into the early and mid part of the next decade.
Nail on the head.
Who are viable managerial candidates?
Pat Mulcahy and Pat Ryan. Be surprised if someone other than one of those get it. Would like to see Donal Og involved.
I always think moves to âgut the panelâ are wasteful. If lads are still the best guys in their position or better than whatâs coming through or have something to contribute from the bench they should be kept.
Sometimes a panel needs to be freshened up all the same and hard calls need to be made with a medium term view. Look at what Kiely did in 2017, he had little issue moving on from nearly men and going with the young fellas and it was for the best rather than holding onto solid if unspectacular lads like James Ryan, Paudie OâBrien, Gavin OâMahoney etc.
Im sure some of the established lads may well offer something but a clearout is needed as panels get stale. Lads who have been around for years can be more resistant to change too, much easier mold young lads into your way of thinking.
Cork are where limerick were in 2015. Current squad not good enough but plenty of extremely talented young players about to come on the scene.
Hurling is a young mans game these days
Cork will never be far off with the pick they have. Itâs just a matter of getting it all together.
The tide has turned at underage somwhat too. They are producing solid to good underage sides with athletic hurlers. This current under 20s crop is above average, if they can get one exceptional team to come through at minor/20s in the next 4 or 5 years then we should all be worried.
Next yearâs u20 will be very good aswell.
Cork will win more all irelands than anybody in the next decade
Ive been saying the same thing.
