Walsh Park - if a fella canât play hurlinâ on that, well then he just canât play hurlinâ
will cork v tipp attendance clear 20k?
WTF?!!
I heard today they expect around 30k based on current sales graph but they are up against the last day of the EPL .
Premier league and champions league totally over shadowing start of hurling championship.
has a decent effort been made to promote the start of the damn thing?
surely there was a show to be made to preview the championship last sunday on the sunday game
encouraging
Leinster winners - Galway
Dark horses - Dublin
Munster winners - Clare
Dark horses - Tipp
The marketing team needs shooting. After last summer this week should have been in your face highlighting the hurling is back. You wouldnât even know itâs on ffs
Not a hope
Agreed. Hardly seen a thing about it.
I get the sense expectations are somewhat muted in a few counties right now, definitely compared to this time last year. Thereâs a bit of a hangover from what was a bad auld league too. Cork - Tipp should be the blockbuster of any weekend, however the last game between the two sides a few months back was about as bad a game as youâll see. Kilkenny - Dublin for me is the most intriguing tie of the weekend.
There was a lot of aul talk in Wexford about a ticket scramble for our first game away to Dublin in Parnell Park (week 2, weâve a bye this weekend) as capacity is limited to 8k ir thereabouts. But tickets remain available on tickets.ie afaik and the clubs in Wexford have returned tickets to the county board too. Cairde Loch Garman members were initially entitled to one ticket only but weâve been sent another missive saying we can get two if we want.
Some things never change in the GAA. They never promote the start of the championship properlyâŚever. Its a shame.
That âbelongâ ad for tickets is just ridiculously generic. They are just tight arses about doing it right
They have a photo shoot around 10-14 days before the start of each championship, usually done on a provincial basis.
Leinster football had the competing county captains last midweek posing in front of some kind of aircraft at Baldonnel Airport (see awkward GGA promotional photos thread).
Theyâll do a group photo and then photos of the first round pairings. Then a series of boring articles will be trotted out with accompanying generic quotes over the course of the next week or two on GAA.ie.
Weâve been working hard since the end of the league. Some positive signs in spring but plenty to improve on. Strong panel and any of the 30 lads can be called upon. Weâre not looking beyond first game etc etc.
That will get people rushing to buy tickets alright
@Gman, the local paper is focused on Wexfordâs football opener on Sunday when nobody cares about that.
Do you know how the hurling team is shaping up for Sunday week? Is Joe OâConnor involved in the senior squad? He was our stand out player in U21 last year but didnât feature in league. Not sure if he was injured.
Whatâs the likely team?

I havent a scooby doo pal. I have been quite busy lately and havent been talking to many people in the know (ie havent read Brendans latest musings). Our minor hurlers put in a good performance on Saturday despite a club man of mine being disgracefully sent off due to an over eager cunt of a linesman. From seeing that bunch, they are quite good and if they can beat Dublin, I think they could do quite well. From the highlights I saw and what Iâve heard, they were by far the more impressive side and would fancy taking on that Kilkenny team again if they get a shot.
Not much use to you, but sure I never am really.
I havent heard anything about the senior hurlers, all very quite! Basically heard the same as what gman has said about the minor hurlers, so fingers crossed.
I saw over on the hoganstand a few people asking about Rory Oconnor and wondering is he suspended for Dublin match because he got sent off last year v Clare. I have no idea, does anybody know?
Havenât heard too much but there are a few injury worries. Morris almost definitely out for the opener and also believe Conor Mac picked up an injury.
