I saw the minors against Offaly and they were lucky enough to come away with the victory. In saying that there was a brutal wind which made it very difficult to hurl. I know theyâve a few lads only coming back from injury so hopefully they improve as the year progresses.
Kilkenny Dublin over Cork v Tipp? Iâll have what youâre smoking mate. KK will trim the dubs in Nowlan.
Iâm hoping for at least 3 cracking ties this weekend. Galway-Carlow is probably the one youâd expect to be one-sided but hopefully Carlow put it up to them, they did get a draw in the leagueâŚ
The league was a bit of a damp squib for the most part and does make it hard to see where most teams are at⌠but youâd fancy Waterford at home to be a lot stronger than last year and will fancy their chances against Clare; Cork favourites at home to Tipp as well but Sheedyâs had a good bit of time to get Tipp back up to speed; normally, youâd expect Kilkenny to beat Dublin in Nowlan Park but the Dubs look to have progressed and KK are missing a good few.
If Dublin go down to Nowlan Park and play with the amount of backs and sweepers they did against us theyâll be absolutely ate alive. Kilkenny will fire over points from 70 yards out the field all day
Tbf to Dublin that was the only time they done it all season and probably just showed the all ireland champions a little too much respect. Dublin have mixed it with Kilkenny plenty over the last 8 or 9 years.
Davy keels by a low profile.
I like it.
They only played one sweeper against us. And while it was overly negative, the real issue was that he wasnât really influencing the game, he was just a deterrent and they seriously struggled for scores themselves as a result. I donât think it was ever in doubt that Limerick would grind out the win, although they did make us work for it.
Apparently it was the only time they played it, and I think they have to trust their backs to go toe-to-toe with the Kilkenny forwards and come out on top. Reid & Walsh are top-notch, the rest are decent but wouldnât strike fear into your heart (youâre probably looking at Fennelly, Ryan, Blanchfield & maybe Mullen or Donnelly). I think Dublin have good backs for the most part, they have an aerially-dominant half-back line and OâDonnell is an excellent man marker.
Dublin probably lack a few scoring forwards of their own. One thing I will say is that Kilkenny have struggled when playing against sweepers in recent years (including against Dublin last year), they hit a lot of aimless ball at times.
Hearing a lot of trouble in the Wexford camp over the past few weeks. Unsurprising the players are fed up of Davy by now. The emperor is naked so to speak.
What sort of trouble?
No ice cream van after training
Whatever he can think of to wind you up, that type of trouble
Players deeply unhappy with the managment. Few lads thinking off walking off the panel. I know jack guiney is doing some heavy recruiting for teams out in San Fran. Wouldnât be surprised if itâs a very short summer for the yellow bellies.
Wouldnât say many of them have too much time for Jack. Expectations are pretty low anyway. Dublin match will tell all. Kilkenny will be back to full strength by the time we play them.
Making players skip college exams and repeat in august (when they will be out of the championship )
If you stick a big lad an walsh, it helps to subdue him, but he is one of the most admirable IC hurlers out there in many ways.
Jaysus. Thatâs a precarious thing to be at. Appalling if true. A bad reflection on the way itâs gone.
Heâs a phenomenal athlete, his pace is absolutely ridiculous for a man of his size. His hurling in tight spaces used to be limited enough but it doesnât seem to matter anymore because he can burst out of any tight space.
He struggles more when man marked by a lad of equal size and vigour.
Who doesnât ?
Thereâs too many teams have just stuck whoever is there on him. If you pick a lad of equal size he struggles more. He is often significantly bigger than his marker.
