Cc @flattythehurdler this is what your dealing with⌠New money no class
Thereâs definitely an element that they thought all they had to do was turn up yesterday. Human nature that you get complacent, a bit of hubris too. Keep an eye on the warm up in the final and report back Dan
Youâre the one that brought it up!
No one with at least half a brain expected it to be easy yesterday.
Before the game preferably
I rest my case
The klaxon has sounded
I havenât the energy to
Strange reaction from the Limerick folk to yesterday.
A real joylessness has crept in.
I expected a solid Galway performance but expected weâd fall short. We were alot closer than I expected and a stronger bench might have swung it.
Youâd like to think that Henry will source the players to fill the gaps.
A few key things⌠Conor Cooneys free driven into the goalies hands. Evan Nilands chance at the end. Cathal Mannion not winning a free after multiple assaults was a big momentum shifter⌠But ultimately I think Limerick would have found a way.
Galway managed to humiliate the Limerickâs yesterday without beating them.
You can sense the Limerickâs are embarrassed by it all.
Thatâd be my take on it exactly.
Itâs hard to know if this is a sign of a solid improvement in Galway or just one of those random Galway performances that tends to happen every now and then. They were stone useless in the Leinster final and very poor against a shite Cork team.
Theyâve a ton of recent minors that should be starting to come through, though Iâm not sure if theyâve made as much of an impact as they were expecting at u20 level. Yet anyway
Absolutely mortified to be going to yet another All Ireland final tbh
Taggy Fogerty played that role for years. Back when Limerick were a shit to average team.
Yesterday reminded me a little of Tipperary vs Dublin in 2011.
I think most Tipp people would admit we were out of the zip and embarrassed to get over the line that day.
An embarrassment of riches
What were you doing in Croker yesterday anyway mate, why werenât you down supporting your minors?
That was another Sunday of great entertainment in Dublin. There are a lot of flaws and gaps in that Galway side but itâs peppered with stout-hearted men who, had they had the rub of the green yesterday, could well have pulled it off. When the 2 Mannions stand up Galway are a completely different animal, and they both stood up yesterday.
There is a lot there for Shefflin to work with, but a lot to work on as well. Nilands miss towards the end to close the gap to 1, and Kevin Cooney coming on with seconds left, suggests that he badly needs to source a couple of forwards in the club championship.
For Limericks legacy they need to have contests like this, and they showed great composure yesterday. Gillane showed again what an exceptional hurler he is, but some of his colleagues also showed how important their physical dominance is and when they donât have it they are far less effective. They are a fine side but they fall a bit short of the standards set by the great Kilkenny team.
*All of the above is written on the assumption that yesterdayâs result stands and there are no further late interventions by hawkeye. In general the hurling lot are a civilised bunch, if something as farcical happens next week I would expect far more furore.
