All Ireland Hurling Final 2014- Kilkenny vTipperary

Could the spray foam system as used in soccer be introduced to deal with the penalty situation? Refs could just mark a point 17 or 18 metres out. Or is that too straightforward for the GAA?

Second penalty was not close to a penalty.

The umpire that end was a fucking shambles

Kelly is a good referee but was miles off the play today. Can’t be helped when ball travels 80 yards any decision is a guess.

KK were out on their feet last 10 minutes.

As a neutral it was a very enjoyable match. Few wides and it seemed end to end stuff whilst watching live.

Observations from the day*
There were significantly more Tipp than KK supporters
Barry Kelly seemed harsh on KK to me (though he definitely called Larkin’s dive correctly)
I thought Murphy was majestic in the 2nd half
Hector needs to fuck right off. Stat
Tipp people smell. Bad. Real fucking bad. They won’t be generating much water charges there fo sure

*on live watching - haven’t seen any replay and I can change my opinion on further watching/analysis

That umpire was so fat he couldn’t raise his arms fully to do a proper wide signal.

Kilkenny got 9 frees Tipp got 5 and two penalties. If Tipp had got two 21 yard frees instead of the penalties, they would have won. I think Kilkenny make a total meal of any decision that goes against them.

Just my initial thoughts with no highlights or watching it over. To be honest I’d have to watch it in its entirety again to verify anything

Bar the smell. That was real

@caoimhaoin what would you think of KKs strength and conditioning. Out scored 5-1 in the last 10 minutes. Young lad like Richie Hogan cramping up.

I thought he got most calls correct apart from the free against Hogan at the end.

The penalties were very difficult calls to make as the fouls straddled the dividing line. Maybe marginally outside in both cases but very cynical and they could have no complaints. The new penalty interpretation is an absolute joke and suits Kilkenny.

The umpire was spot on to use Hawkeye when he was in doubt.

A very enjoyable game. Delighted there’s a replay.

Agree with all that bar he got the free against hogan technically correct. He didn’t have any undue bearing on the result so had a good game. The trouble with the penalties is that the takers look more worried about where they hit the ball from than how they hit it. Stupid panicked mid season rule change.

I think big men tire faster than athletic men. KK picked a huge team. I think it’s just a case of the men they have and/or used.
I thought Hogan was bluffing and trying to slow the tide.

Apparently Hogan is injured.

Or so Donal Og maintains.

Agreed. Seems fellas are giving out about him for making the right call in asking for Hawkeye when he was unsure?

He didn’t look too worried in his MOTM interview. I’ll mark it down as cramp.

Got Cathal Barrett at 10-1 for YHOTY the night of the Tipp Cork game. Another good game and he should get it

Of course it was cramp, he was carrying the other 14 for most of the second half.

On that display, and with the length of time til the replay making people forget what passed earlier in the season, yeah, he could. Thereby costing me my bet on Dowling at 7/1, the prick.

Exactly fair play to him for using it. Cusack seemed to be mocking him for it but he didnt discuss it after. Youd have to think powers wont be giving a price on it being used during a game again though.

The first time he went down KK were on top and he’d just scored a point, the second time was just in front if me and he seemed in a lot of pain, arms waving in the air. It took an age for the medical team to notice him

James Owens will surely be in charge for the replay. The showpiece occasion demands the elite referee.
