I was amazed at the lack of game craft of the Cork players and mentors when Tipp got a run on them early in the second half. This is Cork after all, the supposed cutest hoors in the sport. The masters of the dark arts. But no, nobody went down faking an injury, the forwards didnât cynically foul the Tipp backs to slow them down, nothing. They just let the Tipp tidal wave wash over them.

This is the thing I canât get my head around the most 24 hours later. It would have been one thing had they been hit with the two sucker punch goals right after half time. But there was 10 minutes of the inevitable unfolding after Horgan missed the free as Tipp hacked away steadily at the lead with points before McGrathâs first goal went in. No attempt whatsoever to slow the game down.
It would be interesting to hear an honest perspective from the players - probably only in ten years time would you get a properly candid one - as to what the mindset was. Even after just a handful of the Tipp points I felt Cork were psychologically gone.

Corkâs implosion just started twenty minutes earlier.
The sight of the Tipperary jersey coming at you down the stretch in Croke Park does very strange things to teams.

What a win.
The closer to the game, the more confidant i was getting. Just like the KK game Tipp got their match ups and set up right. Many people said it was about bringing Cork to the 50th minute in a close game and then seeing had they the right stuff.
The Willie Connors switch was a masterstroke. I have no doubt he was in Daltonâs head from the word go. Morgan and Connolly struggled alright but we were solid elsewhere. We played well in the first half but shot execution and turnovers killed us. 11 missed scoring chances to 5 at HT by my count.
Playing a sweeper psychologically hijacked Cork. They were unable to deviate from the direct ball/plan A they go for. Their use of ball was criminal. Secondly was their use of the extra man Coleman. They had no idea how to use him while in possesion. He wasnât a sweeper in front of the FBL and he didnât push up either. He was lost. How they couldnât have prepared for this was baffling. Contrast that with Tipp playing through the lines for the Robert Doyle point. Tipp worked ball so easily from the back exploiting the lack of defensive discipline from Connolly and Horgan.Cork should have been able to work ball out 6 vs 5 especially against John McGrath however they resorted to launching it.
Cork mgmt looked like a crowd of fools trying to make a decision in the 2nd half. It was similar to Sars in January. How can a decision be made by 6 people in that environnent. There should be a scenario sheet done pre game and just act on that.
I donât think Tipp changed anything at half time tactically. They just executed better. The two man HFL began to secure ball in the 10/12 pockets and things clicked from there. Tipp are strong where Cork are weak and the Downey axis had taken on water in the 1st half collapsed. Collins helped with his John Sheedy impression.
This was the 3rd Cork implosion this year after the Clare and Limerick round robin games. Having their performance coach off on some rugby junket doesnât help. Pat Ryan is too loyal to certain players and hard decisions need to be made.
Had a whale of a night after in the Hideout, Palace and lockin in Chaplins. Fair shook this morning but got the small Poxes the mile down the road this morning to meet some of the players in the hotel.
Off now to another thread to sort tomorrows problem.

Id love to know did something happen at halftime? Did they have a row, did they celebrate, did they have a tray of shots, a carvery dinnerâŚthey all downed tools. Such a strange malaise to come over every one of them. Like you, I felt they looked completely beaten within about 5 mins of the second half

I was going to ask about that point because Iâve seen it mentioned in some quarters that Tipp pushed up & went man v man in the second halfâŚhard to tell from TV but I take it from your post it was still the sweeper but they just overwhelmingly won all the battles around the field?

Morgan and Oâ Mara changed roles was all. Connors then became sweeper after the red.
