Duignan said on commentary that they did but sure he might as well have been looking into a bucket.
Probably whats needed for them at this moment. The 1%.
The game that Sundays game reminded me most of was the 2002 Munster Final. Tipp were All Ireland Champions and the hottest of favourites. Babs kindly informed the Waterford fans that theyâd be better off staying at home. Waterford clung in the game, Tony Browne scored a goal on 55 minutes, Waterford sniffed a weakness and rattled off 1-6 to win by 8 points. If youâre mentally set up that you just have to turn up to win once there is the first bit of adversity you canât respond.
I singled out Ormond for having an absolute mare at half time. It was like one of those stereotypical âoccasion getting the better of himâ halves - he fumbled loads of ball, he was dispossessed &/or hooked at least two of three times too, nothing was coming off for him. It seemed like he couldnât get to the pace of the game at all & nerves had gotten the better of him. Yet he still composed himself, came out after half time & scored two of the early points to set the tone for what followed. I think these things matter & other players grow too when they see that kind of determination (many even growing another leg). Now he wasnât amazing after that by any means (think he was switched inside after another bit) but it was one example of many Tipperary players sticking their chests out & sayingâŚweâre not going anywhere, weâll be here til the bitter end. A little like forum legend @peddlerscross at a Dublin cathedral on Saturday night.
I couldnât believe what I was seeing.
Thereâs rabbit in a headlight stuff, and then there was that.
The six boys on the management team standing around like council workers looking at a hole in a ditch.

Ormond for having an absolute mare at half time. It
He had some second half. Just put everything of himself into it. Had a chance near the end and hit the most feeble effort of the day. Was totally drained. Was subbed off a minute later and could barely jog off the pitch. Thatâs what you want. The tank emptied.
Brimmer Bradley?
6 seems too many for a start.
But when you are losing battles in nearly every single position on the pitch there is little you can do.
You have a team of very experienced players too and none of them went down to slow the match. To give them and the management a chance. To break the momentum.
Not one of them lost a contact lense.
At half time they were playing fine, 6 points up. Whatever went on at half time and the first 10 minutes of the second half caused them all to just go flat. They werenât even getting on to a loose ball let alone with a contested one.
Not a contact lens to be seen
Had it been Galway (and lord knows we have been in similar situations) iâd be screaming at one of them to take off their helmet and lie down for a minute.
Shocking game mgmt from the Cork players and Mgmt.
Ah thatâs brilliant.
Throwing Cork in there with 2 basket cases.
If youâre hammered twice in the one championship itâs more than 1% you need
I have a tendency to watch GAA comebacks on YouTube, just to see how they start, how they grow, how they accumulate. I like to try and identify the moment when everybody realises thereâs something mad going on here. Whatâs the moment where the team leading properly starts to panic. Tipp v Limerick in the second game in 2007 is a beauty of the genre. Dublin v Mayo 2015 another one. Armagh v Sligo 2002.
1994 was the five minute final. This was the ten minute final in that what happened between half time and the first Tipp goal at the 45 minute mark decided everything.
I counted an accumulation of events in that time frame (I counted 16) and with every passing one, Corkâs heads went more and more. After the first goal Cork were psychologically shot.
I think the Barrett hitting the post one at 39:57 was the single most important because after that people immediately noticed there was something systemic and mad going on here. You could audibly hear the âwhat the fuckâ gasps from the crowd.
Usually the phrase âthey need a score to settle themâ is a clichĂŠ but in this instance it was not. Cork desperately needed a score as oxygen. After that shot hit the post Cork were properly rattled and it all became a self fulfilling prophecy. What happened after the first goal was just more of the same.
Tipp even had three bad wides in the 35-45 minute period but it made not a whit of difference.
If I was writing for the Examiner Iâd give this some pretentious headline like âAnatomy Of A Disasterâ.
1 35:47 Patrick Horgan puts a free wide from 62 metres (he stole about three metres).
2 36:35 Ciaran Joyce dispossed by Willie Connors. Conor Stakelum nips in on the loose ball and scores a point.
3 37:00 Declan Dalton goes for a Cork puckout in a one on one battle with Willie Connors. Dalton collapses in a heap and Connors starts the attack which leads to Andrew Ormond beating Robert Downey for a point.
4 37:45 Willie Connors disposseses Patrick Horgan as Horgan attempts to force his way through between the Tipp 14 and 21. Bryan OâMara collects the loose ball and is immediately fouled by Alan Connolly.
5 38:56 Brian Hayes tries to catch a Cork puckout that should be his but drops it. Diarmuid Healy makes a timid attempt to pick the ball up and Ronan Maher dispossesses him and Jake Morris picks up the loose ball.
6 39:09 Morris has lost the ball and Diarmuid Healy gets a shot from space from the half way line and drops it short to goalkeeper Rhys Shelly who starts an attack where Tipp work the ball through the lines for another point by Ormond.
7 39:57 Shane Barrett gets a shot from space from about 55 metres on the right after Cork have worked the ball through the lines from a short puckout. He hits the post and Robert Doyle gathers the rebound and Tipp clear it.
8 40:25 Diarmuid Healy fluffs a pick up of a rolling ball which was his and runs straight over the ball. Craig Morgan picks up the loose ball and passes to Andrew Ormond for another Tipp attack.
9 40:43 John McGrath has lost the ball but Tim OâMahony fluffs a handpass to Sam OâFarrell and Tipp work a point by Darragh McCarthy.
10 41:22 Ronan Maher soars to catch Patrick Collinsâs long puckout.
11 41:41 Tipp have lost the ball in their resulting attack. Tim OâMahony, in space, attempts a suicidal pass to Shane Barrett who is running away from him and being swarmed over by Sam OâFarrell. Eoghan Connolly collects the overhit pass in what is a 2 on 1 situation with no hope for Barrett.
12 42:01 Patrick Collinsâ drilled puckout to Darragh Fitzgibbon is intercepted by Jake Morris 60 metres from the Cork goal. Morris is pulled back by Robert Downey who gets a yellow card and Tipp point the easy free.
13 43:40 Tipp win another long Collins puckout.
14 44:28 Brian Hayes cannot gather a speculative long high ball along the Hogan Stand sideline and deflects it out for a Tipp sideline ball.
15 and 16 44:56 Darragh Fitzgibbon gets space and hits the post from 50 metres off his left. Tipp clear it and work it down to Jake Morris who shoots short from 45 metres. Patrick Collins attempts to stop the point but only bats it down to John McGrath who scores a goal.
If the scoreboard operator doesnât make a mistake in semi final Kilkenny win that All Ireland.
Small Margins.
Id say cork definitely do. There wouldnât have been anywhere near the level of we hammered them twice alreadyness
