Ah yes but most of them were against the likes of Westmeath, Laois and Longford. The 74-77!team took on the greatest team in the history of the game and beat them.
Yeah fair point. This team will be regarded as up there and conparing different eras is tricky/silly but you are right that Heffos Army will always have a special place in Dublin history.
Tomas is lovely in this suit.
Dessie another one who is giving out that incorrect stat about Dublin being 29 games unbeaten.
Was there any talk on TV coverage about why Hennelly was brought in? Were they unhappy with some of Clarke’s kick-outs? There was also talk that O’Connor’s ankle injury meant he couldn’t kick 45s so Hennelly came in for that reason. Seems unlikely though. Hennelly floated three or so early kick-outs up in the air against an outnumbered player (like Clarke the last day) with Dublin getting scores from them, the shitty short one that ended up with Keegan fouling Connolly (a ridiculous decision to award a black card) and then the penalty fuck up. Christ, what a terrible decision by management.
I thought Mayo were the better side today but their forwards let them down. Cillian O’Connor didn’t want to know in open play again, Moran was fairly wasteful and Aidan O’Shea was below par. The likes of Harrison, Durcan and Seamus O’Shea were brilliant for them.
Brogans are very nice people
Interestingly I heard one of Mick Spillane’s kids who was also in CBC is playing left back for Dublin under 21s so another coming through from Cuala in that area of the pitch.
I don’t watch much GAA but is the position that seems to be the hardest to play. Like a corner back in the NFL you have to balance being reactive and proactive going against athletic guys with the ball flying anywhere. I’ve a lot of respect for the ones like Marc Ó Sé who can do it consistently as you have to be mentally on.
Fitzsimons was MOTM in my opinion too. Never rated him that highly before now but he was immense. In fairness O’Connor doesn’t show for the ball but he moved onto Moran when Cooper was black carded and did a tremendous job on him.
I thought MacAuley and in particular Costello made great contributions from the bench. Fenton was much quieter today and I felt Seamus O’Shea was the dominant midfielder.
The Dublin backs were generally quite solid but I thought Diarmuid O’Connor gradually got the upper hand on John Small.
Rock was much better today and the last 4 points came from the attacking subs in Brogan and Costello.
Cluxton’s distribution in the second half was brilliant too as was just highlighted on The Saturday Game.
Paragraphs pal.
That post is unreadable.
I wonder was that the best game of football ever?
Amended it for you, pal.
Rochford saying there that it was a calculated decision to change keepers after seeing Dublin press up on their kick-out in the first match.
Some Mayo fans were bawling in the stand at the end today.
Do you?
Saw that. Pathetic. There’'s no crying in sport. Man the fuck up.
I do.
Are you still wondering it?
Any neutral would have to feel for Mayo players/supporters.
Total devastation in fairness…be tough for a few days.
Its sport pal. No ones dead. Its not like a plane has crashed.
Total devastation. Anyone who thinks sport is total devastation has lived a very fucking sheltered life, or puts far too much fucking emphasis on a few lads chasing a ball around a field.
True there’s no one dead…but losing an AI final is tough for all concerned believe me.
Particularly for a county who haven’t won one in years.
