Should Davy go Joe?
It will be some game hard to call.
Pitch invasion? A few kids is right.
YES i said he should have went 2 years ago
Just shows how much influence you have in Clare Joe
Please tell me what cusacks reputation as a coach is built on so please?
If you don’t know then you’re as ignorant as I think you are
Two very good sets of under 21 players 08 to 10 winning one all Ireland while contesting 3 finals including another jealous Limerick tosser robbibg us in 08 plus another group from 12 to 15
The players wete there to compete but the managers personality contrived to make sh1t of them.
The chaos in defence for the second goal was almost a synopsis of our failings.
A simple line up of 3 and 3 in the backs would have killed it but instead complex instructions meant we had no right corner back or left half back at throw in
Those instructions seemed fine in 2013? Or was 13 a lucky break and perhaps the players aren’t as good as you think? 21s is no barometer of success, mate. Look at how KK treat 21s… They laugh at it. Davy has got plenty out of a very limited group- AI and league title.
Your right but you take a lucky break if you do’nt YOU ARE A BAD TEAM
I think yesterday give some back up to the players revolt against Cunningham.
I thought the way Donoghue got his starting selection right and more importantly got us set up correctly for the second half with Hartes positioning was central to that win over Clare yesterday. There was a 10 minute period in the game in the second half where in the past we would have leaked more scores.
I also think Donoghues insight into the Tipp dressing room will be a big benefit to Galway in the preparation for AI semi final.
The way the game is refereed now has more impact on it as a spectacle than the “systems”. In 2013 they seemed to be stricter on pulling and dragging.
It now seems you can run as far as you like once being pulled, being pulled and dragged with spare arm is not a free, can throw ball and a high tackle around neck or a pull with a hurl is all that will result in a card. end up with the rucks we saw yesterday and Galway won 90 per cent of those. Teams need to be big now. You cannot pull on ball in air as risk a red card so big men can put hand up without fear.
Lads suggesting pace and mobility of clare would cause Galway problems but it didn’t happen yesterday (maybe in Croke Park which is a much faster pitch and on a dry day rewards pace).
Can ye get Babs to come out in the press between now and the semi final?
While I think of it.
It was interesting to listen to Davy’s comments on both Galway goals yesterday.

Joe Canning caught a Clare puck out over Brendan Bugler - which is a big ‘no no’ he said. I assume the thinking here is that a half back should not be contesting his own puck out as it exposes a whole load of space in front of the full back line. This is logical but by pointing out the error of the positioning Davy omitted to note that Bugler could’ve actually won the ball when he was there and it could also have been defended after JC had won it. So it was the lack of competition at the catch and the subsequent plays that caused the goal not the positioning in isolation.

‘We didn’t have time to get a sweeper back to defend the second goal’ or words to that effect. Well fuck me. They had 6 backs in that area of the field and were so confused about what the system was that they couldn’t defend it. And one of the Clare midfielders didn’t bother his hole tracking Burke giving them an over lap.
His rationalising of the goals, if a true reflection of his views on the incidents, would cause me serious concern if I was a Clare person.
Clare and Waterford are proving that while systems are all well and good but at points in every game you just have to be able to hurl your position.
Waterford can’t defend for shit if there is any sort of pressure applied to them. Wexford had them in bother a couple of times yesterday with minimal pressure. A major reason for this has to be the number of bodies they have around at all times.
Lads can we have a bit of a debate on the sizes of the various pitches around the place again?
I thought Thurles seemed very slippy yesterday.
Systems are good, robots are bad. There has to be some flexibility to systems to allow adaptation on the day.
Not sure I mentioned size of pitch.
It is not size of pitch but Croke park surface plays differently to other surfaces. Rewards pace a bit more.
Clare don’t have the physicality for modern day inter county senior hurling. All the underage titles in the world won’t change this.
I’m sure you didn’t mention the size of it but every quarter or so @Gman will lash up the table of dimensions and we ponder how Cusack Park is actually as big as Croker etc.
This crack of Clare being a Croke Park team relates to 3 matches played in 2013 against Limerick and Cork, it’s bizarre to be honest.
