Shane O Neill’s strike on Honan wasn’t awkward. Come on!
Cork hitting only 3 wides was a phenomenonal stat, given the pounding they were taking.
The Irish Times had an interesting graphic showing that a Clare team has never beaten a Cork team, in a final of any hurling competition.

It’s not a graphic, it’s a simple fact.

A great level of efficiency alright, like a small farmer.
Can someone relay the stats on scoring chances…
I think I heard Clare had 32 scoring chances and Cork had 23 or something along those lines…

At one point the graphic showed that Clare had score 20 from 31 chances and Cork had only 18 chances
The game was very like the relegation final in that Clare should have won handy but kept letting Cork in for goals at crucial times.Hard to see Cork getting 3 goals the next day but then again they surely wont be as bad! Clare scored 25 pts and still didn’t win that will mentally hurt them over the next 3 weeks.
its such a surprise to get on i suppose
True enough, Colin Ryan had the look of a lad who’d barely hit a free all summer yesterday
davy on clare fm said he was delighted nicky o`connell shouldered gavin out of the way before the equaliser as it knocked the whistle out of his mouth.
What is the story with a penalty. Just had a look at the rule book it says
But it says a penalty should be taken from 20m line.
“The penalty puck shall be taken from the centre point of the 20m line.”
Anthony Nash is on the 14m line when he hits the ball. It not possible for the goalkeeper to be 20m back.
“For any of the three players defending a
penalty on the goal-line to move nearer than
20m to the ball before the ball is struck.”
Then it should be retaken.
What constituents “ball is struck”. Is that when he rises it or when he hits it.
The way I see it, if players are allowed gain ground why aren’t the goal keepers.

I think Kelly was ripping the piss with how far out he was coming and it should have been retaken. I also think for Collins’ goal chance Nash dove out feet first and it should have been a penalty.
Davey would want to be careful to not go too far with this siege mentality.
Cyril Farrell said that things are so professional these days that Clare would meet up early this week, maybe even last night. For fuck sake.
Clare’s bleating about the referee is fairly pathetic. They got enough handy ones themselves. The one where Bugler grab hold of some Cork lad’s hand, made out as if he was fouled got the free and then did an upper cut to nothing was really amusing.
Most of what I thought of the game has been said already. Just on the Nash free where Kelly was out on him, he was one yard off the line, and well inside the small parallelogram when Nash first touched the ball. The height and distance Nash threw it up, and the speed Kelly ran at him, meant they were nearly on top of each other when Nash struck it.
Now, if people want penalties retaken because a keeper is one yard off the line when it is being retaken, then its doubtful we’d get any penalties ever taken. Nash takes the piss with the way he throws it up so high (but seemingly within the rules), so if a keeper counteracts that by running at him, then it wouldnt bother me.

@Gman, fuck off with your accurate description of what actually happened. This a forum and we deal with speculation and half arsed opinions based on drink fueled memories.
whats this bullshit analysts use to condone certain actions - ‘sure its a final and you don’t want the game ruined with a lad getting sent off’ or ‘Brian Gavin played too long but in fairness to Clare they deserved a draw’…I totally agree with gavin should be allowed play past 2 minutes if he feels he wants to but surely the reason given by analysts should not enter the equation with that or a sending off…its either in the rules or not -the occasion or sentiment shouldn’t make a difference…
The ball was out of play for at least half of the 2 minutes.
ish.

I may be worng, but i believe the rule state that the opposing players cannot move until the ball is struck. I presume a lift does not constitute a strike.
nash does take the piss though
stop talking facts yourself!
