There is absolutely no cOmparision in what Demihan got away with compared to any footballer playing now. Different times I know but Jimmy probably wouldn’t be good enough these days.
JBM was probably equal in terms of ability. But he was a bigger loss to Cork football than he would have been to hurling. He struggled in 86 in hurling.
I only saw him with the Barrs play football but I would suggest in the modern game he’d be up there with Gooch.
I ve only seen the footage from Laochra Gael, various video snippets but I thought he looked like a more natural footballer than a hurler. I am not saying that he wasnt skilful at the hurling but he just looked so composed, graceful on the ball in football and he had goal poaching skills. He seemed to have a massive impact with the footballers in 1973 at 19 years of age. U d struggle to think of a player that made such an impact at senior level with an ireland winning team first year out of minor. Jason Sherlock was outstanding for Dublin in 1995 but not in JBM class
Fagan O’Dowd surely saw JBM in his prime in both codes and could adjudicate on the better hurler\footballer debate?

I don’t know, and seeing as he never gave either a complete go on their own we’ll never know. But he was nit suited to old school football but he was to hurling, you could reverse that were he to be playing now, his skills might be lost in modern hurling whereas the protection afford in football would suit him. Not sure he’d have shone thru the commitment levels needed now. He was not k own as a bad trainer or anything but he really played for the lOve of it and instinct, that is taken away now by alot of coaches, unfortunately before a guy is even an adult. Thankfully that’s getting rectified somewhat these days but mental County Minor coaches often ruin good work done at club level.

London 0-08 Waterford 1-02
Tipp 0-09 Clare 0-05
Listening to Tipp v Clare on TippFM, commentators saying Tipp had a serious breeze in the first half. If so, it will take a serious performance to see this out with that lead.
A smashing game in Derry has finished in a 0-16 each draw. Mark Lynch missed a free from 40 yards out on the left touchline with the last kick. Not posting anything groundbreaking but Jamie Clarke is some class act. He scored Armagh’s last two points - a free where he cut across it with the outside of his left foot and then going up and fielding a ball before slotting it over. The Kielts were very good for Derry with James knocking over lots of scores from frees but the full forward McGuckin, who impressed me in Wexford Park last weekend, went off with a serious looking ankle injury. Both teams look to be building nicely but it’s a very bunched division and they’re as close to relegation as promotion.
Good result for Down, last weeks loss would have buckled many a former Down team, they have lovely footballers, have added a bit of size and seem to be building a stronger mind as well going by that result.

Full Time in Newry also: Down 0-13 Mayo 0-11.
They started well with Johnston looking sharp and for the first half were well in it with the lead swinging back and forth a couple of times, they were to an extent kept in it by the soft goal granted. But Dublin completely crushed them on the restart and it was a cakewalk to the end.
