Tipped in along leafy Ennis Road to the GGA’s 3rd largest stadium (cc @myboyblue) for what I expected would be another enthralling encounter between these old rivals.
I’ve seen Galway 3 times in quick succession in the league and again just their sheer size is impressive. Tipp really missed not only Callanan’s size up front but his speed as well. They had little enough to bring on, I was surprised when Bonnar Maher came on and was absolutely dwarved by McInerney. At the other end, Galway have size and speed. Whelan was simply outstanding and had Tipp at sixes and sevens, I see he is in to 7/2 for YHOTY.
Dunno if Tipp have had the legs run off them in the last week but there was plenty of poor decision making and basic errors, similar to Limerick last weekend. The tight pitch in the GG probably doesn’t suit their game either. They would also have been better off had Forde been suspended.
Its all for the first paragraph of the obit mate, it’ll still go down in black and white alongside the rest. All Ireland and National League winning captain. He’ll get there eventually no doubt.
I think you’re being generous to Ronan there, although he was trying to quench so many fires. Hard to give anyone more than six (Ronan, Brendan, Breen)
Tipp lads are gas, one minute they have the scent of blood in their nostrils, they sense Kilkenny are dying and they are talking about “taking over”, winning whatever they can while they are on top, becoming the new Kilkenny, being ruthless.
The next minute, they are going out of their way to get the message across that they’re not overly bothered about getting fucking hockeyed, bullied and bate out the gate in the League final that was supposed to herald in the Tipp era of dominance. It kills them that their great rivals Kilkenny were never embarrassed like that in their pomp. What a fucking dressing down that was!
Totally agree. Delighted with the result today but listening to lads comparing Limerick favourably to Tipp was like listening to a heifer farting. Galway never even got going against Limerick which is why Limerick were so close so late.
