Mayo sat off Derry for 45 minutes and let Derry pick them apart. Men behind the ball but doing nothing. Shane McGuigan could have opened a coffee shop in the space he was left in.
Then ten points down they flip a switch. Press Derry all over the field and went at them. The crowd started baying for blood and Derry couldnāt live with it. The game was in absolute carnage. Keeper caught out the field ends up nearly chipped. Conroy nearly goaled after shredding the Derry defence only to be called back and given a free 45 yards earlier. Then AOS trys to kick a free that he wouldnāt score if he was there for a week. And then it all fizzled out as quickly as it started and Derry ended up coasting home for a finish. Was tremendous fun for that 15 minutes though.
I can see why Mayo are trying to keep men back because they are awful defensively. But the extra men did nothing to stop that and left them short out the field. They have no structure or rhyme to their play.
Derry very impressive. Complete opposite to Mayo know exactly what they are about

Another black day in the annals of Kildare football (is there any other type?). Donegal only toyed with them out there. As youād expect from a contest between a Div 1 v Div 3 team.
The apathy in the county is very worrying. A general malaise all over.
Funny how people seemed to just expect Derry to regress under Mickey Harte.
