Allianz National Hurling League 2023

Ah there were always 3 decent teams in 1B. 2017 for instance Wexford finished above Galway and Limerick. 2016 it was Clare, Limerick and Wexford etc.

Right now the hurling league is gone stale. When it’s a hurling only weekend there no real cut in 80% of the games if not all of them. The football league is of far more interest these days. Armagh v Galway for instance should be a cracker of a game at the weekend. The division 2 relegation battle will be box office too.

Hurling is gone very stale thanks to the ridiculous round robin which means Clare play Limerick 4x times per year.

Likewise Wexford v Galway.

I feel like Limerick are playing Cork every second week. Invariably Cork win the league game and Limerick send them home with their tae in a mug come championship.

Wexford v Tipp, Wexford v Cork, Galway v Clare and Limerick v Kilkenny are probably the few pairings who we haven’t grown weary of as of yet.

Tipp must have played Waterford 6 times since 2021 and meet again in a few weeks.

Its a joke.

Ye brought this on yerselves

You can only beat who is put in front of you.

The way it’s set up now you could play a team 6 times in the same year.

They won’t keep getting €18 a head for half-paced puckabouts

Crowds this year have remained steady. Interesting to see will it keep going.

The big problem with Waterford was last year:
-Not allowed celebrate the league win
-Overtrained by McGuinness & Co.

From a Tipp perspective, you’d be hopeful Cahill learns from this but I wouldn’t bet on it.

The public were starved for six months. The appetite was there. Although that being said, it didn’t look like a huge crowd in thurles last saturday

Thought it was decent at first looking at the crowd in the New Stand but then when they showed a replay of a point or whatever it looked like there was no one in the Old Stand. Did they even open it?

Just to compound the repetitive nature of the ties, they made the decision to fix the league groups for two years. So other than swapping Offaly for Westmeath, Limerick are playing the same teams as in last years league.

You’re better than that.

They’re doing great work down there, we’re more than happy to play our part in growing the game anywhere Gaels are putting in the effort.

Clare nearly slipped into oblivion there in the mid-2010’s but you’d guys like Kinnerk, James Moran more recently going in there and driving the whole thing on and they’re competitive again with a great little side. So look, we don’t mind helping out with the bigger picture in mind.

Hurling needs your Corks, your Clares your Tipperaries.

Go back to a six team league, and have promotion and relegation like it was. Have the top two play a final. Have a good gap between league and championship. The end

The end of club games?

One of the Limerick players fathers is over there trying to make a go of them sure. Thats how kind we are

Limerick are only winning All-Irelands now because Anthony Daly developed all those players.

They’re Clare All-Irelands, really.

Only for Justin McCarthy raising Limerick hurling to the ground we never would have rebuilt. He has the best claim of a lot of people

I’ve no idea how you’ve gone there from my post. Scrap the league semi finals. Leaves a 3-4 week gap between end of league and start of championship. Easily done within the current calendar
