Where are all the snipers in Cooper helmets gone?
We don’t even recognise the game in its current form.
Running and throwing and swarming and rucking. We haven’t a clue.
Before Tipp would always have 5x Snipers in Cooper Helmets in the forward line and Bonner Maher to do the donkey work. Now its completely flipped and only Morris and Forde being the only two snipers and Forde being a pale shadow of his former self.
We need to go back to the core Tipperary values of either being effortlessly good or just effortless.
The game has changed fundamentally, but everyone else is slow to realise. Tipp have managed a bit of freewheeling a few times over limerick the last few years, only for the machine to eventually grind them. They have adapt or die. Let’s hope its the latter.
Hurling in Tipperary is soft.
Thats what their resident expert has suggested anyway.
Delighted for Cahill too.
He can shout and roar all he likes at them.
Not a fan of lads leaving their own clubs to go medal hunting.
He’s hopeless. Shouldn’t be near the starting team.
PV made for great reading tonight. The 8 point run without reply to start seems to have done damage
I honestly feel theyre not as bad as the worst case suggested.
If Barrett is available they will be fine at the back generally.
Equally Keohoe is a must start at 14.
Their problems are in the middle sector obviously. Tynan needs to play. Breen equally. Id have O’Meara at 6. Jury is out on 3 or 4 of their starters today generally. O’Connor will come good yet. Is Devon Ryan miles off this team or injured? If he is miles off,why is that?
Interesting post match quotes from Cahill. Seems to infer some of his own players are bottlers. Bizarre.
Cahill felt some players didn’t respond well to the pressure as the stakes were raised.
“When the stakes go up, different players react differently. Some of our players today when the pressure cooker was turned up fairly high, they just weren’t able to find the answers. That comes with practice,” he said.
“They’ll have to go away, take the lessons out of that, and work hard on it. We have to have quite a number of discussions as a manager and players between now and the next five weeks to really make fellas aware of where they’re at, what areas they need to improve on and give them the support to do that.”
Is it possible Liam Cahill has finally figured out how to peak a team for championship and not the league?
Fair play to Tipp, the Limerick lads were feeling down and this has picked them right up.
End of the day, Tipps 1st two rounds in Munster are key. If they lose both of those they are fucked and the formlines might be triggered as a plus for them or a total negative.
They need to win their home games.
Watching League Sunday. Clare had some lad playing today wearing a red jumper under his jersey.
Tbh I think management need to take a fair share of heat for that today as well as the players.
Hogan looks the better option in Goal and as @peddlerscross says, use his length & drive it long.
Morgan & Ronan are okay & starters without question. Breen has no business on the team. A sub at best.
Byrne was the steadiest HB today. O’Mara has loads of hurling but his positioning sense at IC level has been atrocious so far.
Bowe, game as fuck but not a relation of a defender. Put him wing forward and let him work both directions.
Midfield, fuck knows the answer. It’s not Connors. Stakelum has had good days but form this season is stink.
Half forward line. I said it on Tipp thread advantage Clare once I saw named team.
Dan can’t move to use his bulk and work ethic. GOC isn’t built for running around marking defenders.
Stakelum, never again ffs.
Poor Morris, he’s a genuinely brilliant forward. Pace and a insatiable appetite for goals. Putting Bonnar or Forde in there with him is about as useful as putting two Labradors in there.
You could forgive Bonnar as he’ll bust his hole but Forde is not worth a fuck. Lads bemoaning Conlon getting away with that tackle but how fucking easy did Forde lose control of the ball?
He bottled the frees. He just doesn’t want to work or tackle or take hits at all. Chap has lived for years on a reputation in schools matches.
Full Forward will have to be Keohe, Morris & god knows who else.
It’s hard to see Noel, Cathal, Tynan, Brian or John McGrath or many more genuinely improving things.
Cahill needs to cop on now, either get the lads trying to do as told or if unable he needs to change tactics fast.
Clare forwards worked hard. Their defenders were touch tight.
They consistently worked their short puck outs quickly and precisely into scoring opportunities. Free taking was spot on too.
They look a United bunch with little or confusion as to what the game-plan is. They can really push on now with the big names returning and a share of luck.
So Tipp or Limerick for the wodden spoon?
Tipp / Waterford
Did not fancy Cork one iota but looking at Tipp Cork should blitz them and Waterford.
There’s nothing earth-shattering in that. Padraic Joyce said far worse today
Its very hard to call it.The league will have no semblence or relevance to the championship in 4 weeks time.
I think Waterford funnily enough may be there or thereabouts to get out of Munster. I’m putting my neck on the line saying that. Getting the scores may be a problem, but they have the hurlers. Davy normally does well in his second year too. I think Cahill and Bevans will have Tipp very, very competitive and Cork sure were only a puck of a ball away from Limerick last year.
It’s wide open.
