Allianz National Hurling League 2024

This is a terrible debate. No structure to it at all.

The Louth fella is the only one to look at it outside his own sphere.

Lack of confidence.

Joe’s issue is the cameras not being good enough in Ballycran. Did he see the state of the facilities.

yeah, they all on about their own patch, it was a terrible debate

it needed Cusack!

Bar using the term money/investment there wasnt a solution put out there

  1. Appoint Director of Hurling
  2. Set up task group. High profile member of task group given a few counties. Dalo with Mayo/Sligo
  3. Twin counties- eg Tipp with Antrim & Roscommon.
  4. Set up regional club leagues
  5. Promote + develop Celtic challenge
  6. Promote the lower leagues and championships.

They didn’t suggest that load of bollocks again did they?

They were the same this time last year and we know how it ended up.

Portroe don’t take the league very seriously.

The main takeaway is that they need to bring a proper camera to Mullingar the next time so you can see fellas faces*

*behind the face guards.

Jarlath Burns was speaking at the Wexford GAA Game Changers Lunch on Friday (thanks again for the invite @briantinnion) & outlined 3 specific aims for his presidency:

  1. Protect the amateur status of the association (was strongly critical of spiralling costs of preparing county teams ironically enough at a fundraiser for same [and other things].

  2. Develop hurling (his main aim, which surprised me given his background. Said the biggest thing stopping growth of hurling in non-traditional areas is bogball. Talked about incentivising clubs to promote hurling, setting up a comm-itt-ee filled with people who’ve got hurling established in areas/clubs where there wasn’t much before & focusing on participation in places above that mythical line from Dublin across to the wessshhht.

  3. Another football rules comm-itt-ee to analyse everything to ultimately recommend whatever’s deemed necessary to improve the spectacle.

There are 5 rounds of County Hurling League in Tipp kicking off Patrick’s weekend. Then there is 1 guaranteed Divisional game and 3 guaranteed championship games. So 9 is the minimum you play and i suppose most clubs will get 11 or 12. Still its not a lot.

The Patrick’s weekend round since the split season came in has generally been a write off with lads away/drunk/hungover.

Round 2 this year is Easter weekend. That will probably be a write off too with lads away.

A lot of clubs are just going to find it impossible to get any sort of momentum going.

They didn’t take the championship too seriously either last year. They got relegated

That looks unreal. Fair play to the waterford county board

The number of matches that Portroe does or does not get is entirely irrelevant in what was a discussion about lower tier hurling. Not sure what point he was making.

As good as anyone to talk out of both sides of his mouth soon as a camera is pointed his way
